Canadians like to say that the difference between American and Canada is that America is all about "the pursuit of happiness", while Canada is all about just being happy.

Pet owners are no happier than those without pets.
That one kinda suprised me. Maybe the dogs were barking and the cats were puking when the pet owners took the survey?

Never been happier to not share idealogy with some people here.

You never do- so I don't think it should be much of a concern.

I'm happier that way.

So, why do you post stuff, get the comments you expect then feel the need to comment on getting just what you were expecting? Is there a point? How is this a discussion? How is this not trolling? Please explain.

Hmm. What about, as a subset, people who don't own pets but WANT pets vs. people who don't own pets and don't care. In America, there's very little stopping people from owning a pet, so those that would be happier with a pet can get one, and those that wouldn't don't.

I'm trying to maintain a sense of humor in the face of people who call people like me ignorant....for that I get accused of trolling and being condescending.

Somehow I don't think I am the one not getting it.

I just want to preserve this post before it disappears into edit history: You finally admit this is what makes you happy. Next time the martyr posts come up, I'll be sure to resurrect this.

You will also find out that conservatives have more sex, or at least more kids.

With apologies to Matterhorn Fan and GD- their comments were by no means inappropriate or as I called it "expected"-

....those that were, well, they stand out all on their own.

But I did want to clarify the record-

However...from that same study--- http://pewresearch.org/social/chart.php?ChartID=29

So, I guess ignorance is really not bliss. Or, at least not as blissful as knowledge:cool:

Tell ya what, if you are so concerned for my happiness, figure out a way to get us out of the mess in Iraq and bring our soldiers home. That will make me far happier than being a republican. :)

Maybe so or maybe no...............which came first the happiness or the Republicanness(is that a word?)?

If happy people tend to be(come) Republicans than making you happy about Iraq wouldn't make you happier than being a Republican....it would make you a Republican:eek:

But...if just being a Republican is what makes one happy than your only hope it to join us:evil:

........................Frankly, I don't put much stock into studies like this((or the other one that said Republicans are more whiney:rolleyes: )

No silly, whining makes Republicans, Republicans ;)

I don't care what makes me happy, or you happy - whatever floats your boat as long as it doesn't harm anybody.

Well I like to say: Who the F#ck gives a sh!t about what condecending Canadian's think. I happen to know they have a lot of Ice Holes up there.

Have you actually heard more than one Canadian say this? Read the quote somewhere or? (Just curious)

Have you actually heard more than one Canadian say this? Read the quote somewhere or? (Just curious)More of a pithyism I picked up than anything. The Canada part of it is really irrelevant, just a viceral way of packaging the sentiment and play off the pseudo-rivalry. I don't remember where I first heard it.

To me, what's essential is the somewhat erronious idea that happiness needs to be persued. Happiness can be found anywhere. It seems that too many people equate "inconvenienced" with "unhappy".

Ah I see, and taken in the context of our time I would agree with you I would even go further and say that being distracted or having fun is often a superficial path to true happiness and contentment. It is indeed a serious problem (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0060987359/102-8897851-6256942?v=glance&n=283155) for America in particular.

However; if you put it into a historical context and look at the framers break from old world society and even how American society differs from many present world nations and realize that being free to peruse your own choices gives us an opportunity to seek fulfillment in ways that not everyone on this rock are able and that is not trivial nor an ideal that any of us in my opinion should be so quick to discard simply because so many fail at (or make choices you don't agree with) or even take for granted the wonderful opertunities that a government based on and respectful of freedom of choice can entail.
