Now that both Dell and Apple have recalled millions of sony made laptop batteries it makes me think.

Why hasn't Sony recalled any batteries for it's own laptops? Did they use better batteries for their own products? Are they ignoring the issue for their own laptops?

Sincerely,

Concerned Sony Vaio owner.

There is a specific range of serial numbers that are being recalled. I have a coworker that, between his office laptop and home, has 8 batteries for Dell model laptops that fall in the recall, but none of those batteries' serial numbers are on the recall list. It would not be uncommon for Sony to be using either different model batteries, or ones from completely different manufacturing runs/facilities. It's also possible that they had previously found and fixed the flaw, without knowing that the flaw could cause the kind of damage it does in customer use.

Heh heh - all this time the TSA is screening for liquids not knowing my laptop battery is a cleverly disguised explosive device - heck, it would seem just an accident...

My Powerbook has one of the affected batteries. I'm not really that worried...out of millions of recalled batteries there have been like 5 cases of them exploding.

But, hey, I get a new battery, which is cool. :D
