Can anyone ease my depression with a happy report from WorldCon?

Yeah, I hear it was really bad this year - worst ever. You didn't miss a thing.

Too bad the people you talked to didn't have a good time. We had a blast. I'll have a full report up at some point, but this was my second Worldcon, my first having been the one in Anaheim in '96. There were a few standout things, but in general, most of the panels were fun. There were a few that didn't quite turn out the way I expected, and the problem is always that there's too much to do and not enough time to do it in.
Daytime highlights for me: "Star Wars" discussion with Steve Sansweet from Lucasfilm - looks like we're probably going to Celebration IV next year, since it'll be at the L.A. Convention Center; session with Marina Sirtis - she hasn't changed a bit and is always a riot to listen to; session with Harlan Ellison - he's as opinionated as ever; Godzilla panel discussion - excited that lots of DVDs are coming out soon; Buffy/Joss Whedon panels - it was really interesting to hear about the development of Buffy and how Joss works.
Evening highlights: "Once More, With Feeling" singalong - that was just awesome!; "Match Game SF - After Dark" - a really great take on a classic show, and with the nighttime version, adults only, no answers barred.
And of course, the parties! The hardest thing was getting up the next morning for 10am panels after being up so late.
I know we're not going to next year's Worldcon (in Japan), and we're probably not going in 2008 (Denver won), but I'm definitely keeping track of where it travels in the next few years.
Moonliner - did you have specific questions?

Not really. I'm still a bit bitter about not being able to make it to the convention so I rather liked Kevy's review. ;)

OK, someone throw me a smilie or something next time so that it hits me hard enough to get it...

Alex has banned us from using smilies. ;)

I went on Saturday (Bill insisted – said that I needed to do something fun (or he just wanted me out of his hair). It was nice, but I’ve been to better WorldCons. I’m a jaded old fan, I guess. I did manage to see some old friends, and that was nice. I also spent more money than I should have in the Dealer’s Room.
Oh… I almost forgot… An old friend of mine threw a GLBT fan party in his room Saturday night. The room had a perfect view of the Disneyland fireworks! We turned off the lights and ooo’d and ahhh’d. Someone in the back was giving a running commentary on what part of the show we were seeing… “Now, this is Haunted Mansion”…. :snap:

I think I remember seeing a sign for that party, but we never managed to make it there. Saturday was a *very* late night for us.
