See how you do (http://www.rethinkingschools.org/just_fun/games/mapgame.html) if you get all the "Stans" right then my hat is off to you!

I got 11 of them on the first try. It went gradually downhill from there. :)

I knew the Middle East (the main countries, at least) but not the smaller countries or much of Africa. (Morocco, I knew, and Niger, but little else.)

Thanks to soviet and north african history classes, I did pretty well. Although I briefly blanked on Armenia. Which is so stupid. I mean, I know what it's next to because I know about the ethnic conflicts. What the hell was I thinking?

It has come to light that I know nothing about the Middle East. I placed Uzbekistan next to Fresno. And who knew Cyprus was not next to Cerritos? Not me.

Crap. I can't even spell Uzobeksterstan, let alone Cerrutios.

I took one look at the map and ran.

The stans were easy for me, but then we did a lot of Russian geography when I took Russian in college.

Other than a couple where I misclicked on the ocean next to the country the only ones I got wrong were swapping Mali and Niger and then Bahrain and Qatar.

Sub-Saharan Africa, however, would give me real problems.

Africa is always hard for me. I am not so good with those countries. I'm good with Middle East now, because I've been doing a lot of work-related stuff in that area.

I guess helping with 4th grade geography homework last year paid off.
