If you've ever been to camp, you've probably been on a snipe hunt... a search for the ever elusive creature that no camper can locate while the counselers sit back and giggle about their charges being sent on a wild goose chase in a dark.
Snipes are imaginary creatures? Right? Right?
Then I read this article: http://news.scotsman.com/uk.cfm?id=1277782006
It discusses a guy who died while trying to get a rare egg out of a nest...
It goes on to say:
He had a series of convictions for activities prohibited under the 1981 Wildlife and Countryside Act. These included taking golden eagles' eggs from near Inverness, attempting to do the same near Perth and of possessing snipe eggs in Lerwick.
Back the train up - Snipe eggs?!? WTF? Apparently not. Snipes aren't imaginary at all. Learned something new!
A snipe (http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/Infocenter/i2300id.html) is a type of bird.
But the animal of the nature supposedly hunted on snipe hunts is fictional.
Jackalopes are also real.

Go out and ask the campers next to us for a left handed smoke shifter and oh I could also use some sky hooks if they don't have any go to the next camp.

I've always wanted one! Actually, last night we had a baby opossum running around our backyard. The cats were entertained. They're sort of cute when they're small. Not as cute as a Jack-a-lope though.

As a little kid, watching Sesame Street, that always bugged me. I mean, if only kids could see him hwo did my mom know he was there?

Cats could become a late-night snack.
Luckily our dogs only got into the occasional late-night standoff.

ooh......aint that freaky?
my dog...who pretty much will chase ANYTHING she happens to catch in her yard stumbled across one cutting through our yard one night late.
one loud hiss like steam escaping from a pipe.....no barking, no nothing, she was just pointing and looking at me as if to say 'do something! I aint touchin it!'
we decided to go have a snack instead.

Our dogs barked back. My parents had to get them into the house where they couldn't see the yard and wait for them to go away.

I saw an opossum today. In the street. Dead as a doornail. As sad as it was, I still had to laugh. His hind legs were streight up in the air and his arms out to the sides and it reminded me of William Shatner's part in Over The Hedge. If half his head wasn't gone I'd wonder if he was realy dead....
Generally you don't have to worry about cats and possums. A possum won't attack unless it is cornered and your average cat will have more than enough sense to not go after one.
Dogs and possums are the real problem since dogs are the stupid. Growing up ours would always corner them and be just smart enough to not actually attack. We just shoot the possum (they killed our chickens to get at the eggs).
My dog had a really good possums story involving the trunk of a car, a pissed of possum, a big wrench, and an absolute refusal to die.

I never thought of that. Maybe if adults saw him as a kid then they could see him as an adult? How else could I still see him?
