I think art is going down the toilet these days, especially with works like these passing as valuable pieces:

Congrats - you reacted in exactly the same fashion the artist wanted you to.

It's Daniel Edwards, the same guy who grabbed headlines and threads with the Britney Spears birthing statue and the Hillary Clinton bust.
He'll ride it out as long as he gets attention - good for him.
As far as calling it "art" - well, "art" is a pretty elastic term. For me, the sculptures in conjunction with the attention make the art. By themselves, they wouldn't mean much, or considered masterpieces.

Honestly, this one amuses me the most of any of his. I think it makes for a pretty interesting commentary, the fact that some kids' bronzed poop WOULD make national headlines.

Leonardo Di Vinci. Sandro Boticelli. Pablo Picasso.
Daniel Edwards.
It hardly seems fair, but they are all artists. Like mousepod posted, "art" is indeed, a pretty elastic term, and means many things to many people. Do I find it riduculous? Offensive? Actually, I find it just lame. What a piece of sh*t- literally! And why would I want this particular turd? (You know, as opposed to all the other turds I collect & hold so dear to my heart.. :p ;) )
I could throw a piece of yarn & tinfoil on the ground and call it a Salute To The Way Things Land. Any takers? :p Because next week I'll be framing tampons for a Salute To Cotton.

Are you going to make me cross-post? I guess you are.
Um, Daniel Edwards, the artist who created the nude bust of Hillary Clinton, the sculpture of Britney Spears giving birth on a bear rug, and the commemorative "first poop" casting of Suri Cruise, is playing into the public's obsession for celebrity minutiae.
Thing is, this guy is becoming a noted artist, who clearly enjoys blurring the line between celebrity info-tainment and serious art. Not only does he create a piece of art that goes right into the category of TMI, he also creates something you might believe the celebrity in question would commission. Admit it, you actually thought "Crazy Tom" had his daughter's poop bronzed. (edit: obviously no one on this board did)
The auction benefits the March of Dimes. Right now, the bidding is at $110.00, and will close on Thursday night. For a relatively low price, you could be the proud owner of an early work by someone who's likely to (okay, I'll edit this too: someone who might very well) become recognized as an important artist.
The OP included a link to Fox News, a fine source of incomplete and slanted reporting. For a more complete look at the artist and his other works, try the Capla Kesting Fine Art (http://www.caplakesting.com/) website.
I hope the March of Dimes makes a sh!tload of money.
