View Full Version : Don't Be Embarrassed! But If You Are, Post Here!

This Thread topic was inspired by People Magazine. A few months ago, they asked celebrities what the most embarrassing song was on their Ipod, and it was way entertaining to read! So, it got me thinking about embarrassing songs on my own Ipod. Sure, we should celebrate our unique tastes & always be proud of our individuality, but admit it- no matter how confident, we all own that one CD we tend to "hide" when someone comes over or rides in our car! Are you the person who is more then eager to display your U2 collection, but somehow you accidentally kick your cherished Best Of Tony Orlando & Dawn under the bed? :D

What is the most embarrassing...

*Song on your Ipod? If you don't own an Ipod, then what CD or cassette?
*Item of clothing that you own or still keep in your closet?
*Thing you've done on a date?
*Item you've purchased in a store?

And for those wanting extra brownie points...
*Sexual experience that you've had?

You don't have to answer all of the questions, but it's much more fun if you do! The shy need not apply- unless they're feeling brave! :)

Ready, set, post! I'll answer mine shortly...

Hmm, on the iPod it would probably be New World Record by Electric Light Orchestra.

No embarassing purchases, but most embarassing retail moment was when I worked at Tower Records and I had to run Gordon Getty's AMEX card for approval. He was non-plussed, I was dying, and everyone else in line was howling. Then there was Robin Williams late one night wanting to know why a $35 CD set was not cheaper and he refused to pay for it. Not really embarassing, but caught him on a bad night, obviously. Unless he was snorting it, $$ at that point should not have been an issue for him.

On a date, leaving with someone else, I think that would fit. Bad form on my part, some might say, but the guy was a pig, good looking, but a pig nonetheless. Running into him in the hallway the next day was embarassing.

I actually don't own it, but I enjoy and listen to "How do you talk to an angel?" whenever it's on the radio. GAH!

*Item of clothing that you own or still keep in your closet?
A lace dress that looks like I took it off of a Victorian-era corpse. (But I still love it!)

*Thing you've done on a date?
After the spending the day with a boyfriend at a comic book convention, he took me to a restaurant to meet some of his co-workers. I had to run to the bathroom to puke and then he had to drive me home early. It was some kind of migraine/flu combo. Terrible.

*Item you've purchased in a store?
A "toy".

And for those wanting extra brownie points...
*Sexual experience you've had?
Was also the most humiliating and unfunny, so I'll just leave it at that...

* Well, it's not on my iPod, but I do own Queen's News of the World, which gets a lot of flack I guess.

* I still have a drawer full of tighty whiteys, even though I've long since switched to boxer briefs

* I dislocated CP's knee

* Jock itch spray

* See third answer above

Well hmmm- I have tons of embarassing cd's
Almost all of Rick Springfield's CD's
Tony Orland and Dawn's Greatest Hits
Lord It's Hard to be Humble by Mac Davis
Modern Talking

Item of clothing - pink polka dot mini-skirt circa 1982. And my fave Esprit Sweatshirt.

Thing I've done on a date - oh so many choices. I'd have to say the worst was an overall horrific evening when I was a sophmore. Guy voted cutest guy in school, asked me to his senior prom. I still think he must have lost a bet but anywho. I was of course terrified therefore probably speechless the entire evening. I had to wear my 8th grade graduation dress as it was the only formal I owned, now two inches too short, with my yo-yo shoes - classy no? My hair only stayed curled on one side and I had braces. Oh yea the picture of elegance. The at the resturant my best friends mother was our waitress so constantly poped up making wink-wink comments. I don't even rememeber dancing actually, which is probably a good thing. Oh and before I left my mother decided it was time for "the talk". Which consisted of telling me to "fake an allergy attack" if anything happened. Needless to say it was our one and only date.

Item purchased at a store - not really embarassing but every darned time I pick up my 6-pack of TAB I get "oh they still make this?"

Sexual experience - well to be honest no actual sex occured, hence the embarassing part. But in a hot tub when the guys friends came barging in to "resuce" him (apparently first time with a girl). We're naked. Someone flips on all the lights, one of them strips and jumps in with us. Yea. Oh and some other kind soul decided to throw us our clothes, while we were still sitting in the water. Thank god high school only lasted 4 years.

What is the most embarrassing...

*Song on your Ipod? If you don't own an Ipod, then what CD or cassette?

Oh, there are tons...but I guess the most embarrassing song I own would be Rico Suave by Gerardo. It actually appeared on a compilation disc, and I don't really enjoy the song, but the rest of the CD was too good to pass up.

*Item of clothing that you own or still keep in your closet?

I have a pair of green jeans that I got back in '98 that still fit.

*Thing you've done on a date?

Went out drinking with a girl...promptly got plastered...walked into wall six times.

*Item you've purchased in a store?

Maybe it's just me that feels this way, but whenever I go clothes shopping, I feel embarrassed buying underwear. I don't really want the world to know whether I prefer boxers or briefs, so I always hide them at the bottom of my cart, and if there's a self-checkout, I use that rather than go through the cash...yeah...I'm weird.

And, I choose not to answer the last question...not enough experience. :( ;)

MP3: Tom Jones - It's Not Unusual that or Enya - Deora Ar Mo Chroi..if only cuz it makes me weep like a boob when I hear it....and I havent a clue what its about.

wardrobe: geez, most of my clothes are pretty embarassing...

dating: how about being mui boracho and uh...recycling on the lady in front of me at the now infamous "Barf Brooks" concert. yeah, that was pretty mortifying.

purchase: my first purchase of condoms. (I think I was about 15 or so) the old guy I'd known forever behind the counter was givin me the evil-eye the whole time 'you DO know what these are for, dontcha son?'

sexual experience: first attempted use of the above mentioned item.

*Song on your Ipod?
It's not on my ipod, but somewhere in the depths of my CD collection is the soundtrack for "Drive Me Crazy," starring Adrian Grenier and that chick from Clarissa Explains It All. (I know her real name, I just prefer to call her that.)

*Item of clothing that you own or still keep in your closet?
I still own my yellow prom dress from 1996! But it's in my parents' closet. Vintage picture!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v379/powerswaterworks/1996prom_595.jpg

*Thing you've done on a date?
Digestive bathroom trouble in a not-soundproofed bathroom after a particularly active and exciting day together.

*Item you've purchased in a store?
My first buzzer. The second, third, and fourth were no trouble at all.

*Sexual experience that you've had?
Learning that, at climax, I SING!

Great thread Ally - I'm loving it!:D

Song on your iPod: Hmmmm....it's not on my iPod, but the other day I found my ancient Debbie Gibson Electric Youth CD, from waaaaaaaaaaay back in the day. That's gotta count, right?

Item of clothing: Ummmm...nothing, really. I do fairly regular culls, so as not to open my closet and go "Argh!" I do have a Cambridge University rugby jersey from about 1988 whih belonged to a friend of mine that I can't seem to let go of though.

Dating experience: When I was 14, I brought a bunch of my friends (girls) along on a movie date. The poor guy was so intimidated he left!

Item you've purchased in a store: Probably of an 'adult' nature....

Sexual experience: A few come to mind, generally of the 'I've had too much to drink' nature...;)

I don't actually embarrass that easily - or, rather, mine aren't the usual triggers. So I can't think of any embarrassing purchases or sexual experience. Or dates, for that matter. And my closet's no great shakes, but there's nothing I'd hide under the bed if company came over.

There are some music items I still own that *should* embarrass me, but regrettably do not. I believe I've already disclosed my high school passion for buttrock hair bands. Hairspray, glitter scarves, stretch jeans - and bonus points for an astoundingly unattractive lead singer. I still have all my cassettes and I can't bear to part with them. I mean, how many people do you know who bought not one but TWO copies of Cinderella's Long Cold Winter? Because the first one broke, that's why. And now I'll have Gypsy Road stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

Song on your Ipod? If you don't own an Ipod, then what CD or cassette?
"Mmm-Bop" by Hanson
Item of clothing that you own or still keep in your closet?
A one-piece short "jumper" with bright-colored Mickey heads all over, circa 1992. Also, a custom-made completely black-sequined jacket, with sequined piano keys across the back. (Although Elton John would envy me.)
Thing you've done on a date?
Wore the aforementioned jacket. (It was the early 90's!)
Item you've purchased in a store?
Vaseline and salad fixings - including cucumbers and carrots. (It was for ren faire - the vaseline to relieve some chaffed skin from my bodice, and the other was next day's lunch. :p )And for those wanting extra brownie points...

Sexual experience that you've had?
I will only give this advice: Do NOT eat deviled eggs and baked beans at a barbeque earlier that day.

Will Smith's Gettin Jiggy With It. I love that song!

*Item of clothing that you own or still keep in your closet?

Nothing. But Michael has a velvet leopard print shirt that I'm embarrassed enough about for both of us.

*Thing you've done on a date?

I'm a constant embarrassment to myself, I couldn't begin to keep track. :p

*Item you've purchased in a store?

A gun. Michael wanted one for target shooting on our first anniversary, so off to Wal-mart I went. They make announcements all over the store and have someone escort you out when you buy a gun there. I felt like such a redneck.

I'm not embarrassed by any of the music on my iPod, but people tend to be puzzled when they hear "How Deep Is Your Love?" by the Bee Gees play...

Item of clothing? I've got a Thunderbirds (the bad movie from a few years ago) t-shirt

Thing you've done on a date? I peed off the side of Suicide Bridge (Colorado St. Bridge)

My Speedos from when I use to scuba dive

*Thing you've done on a date?

Douch (for the wife of course)

Clothing: My bathing suit. I'm a fat chick, remember? Actually, I also own a pair of sneakers in my size with the wheels in them.
Date: Okay, first date with my boyfriend, I got my stomach issue and THREW UP IN HIS BATHTUB!!!
Item: Feh, I still get embarrassed buying pads. Silly, huh?

Brownie Points: More embarrassing for him than for me, but this guy tried to unroll it before putting it on. Stupid Texans.

Music- "Billy Don't be a Hero", Bo Donaldson and the Haywoods.

Clothing- A blueish-green Bugle Boy shirt, circa MVE (Miami Vice Era).

Did I mention that this was at a formal piano recital?

Purchase- "RID (http://www.ridlice.com/pubicbody.shtml)" (enough said).

Some might say I should be embarrased by the Devo or Kraftwerk, but I'm not - Sometimes the Disney selections embarrass me when playing aloud in the office and my iPod sreves up a Star Tours ride through.

I can't seem to find my green velour shirt anymore, but I still have my Blue Spandex stashed away in a safe place.

Date-wise, I suppose driving to Northern California to go on a date with someone who changed her mind the day before was embarassing in retrospect, but I made the most of it at the time.

I've never been embarrased with the usual - tampons, porn, or sex toys - but I felt kind of odd at Americn Girl buying the "Conversation Starter" key chain, in a pederast kind of way.

Sex-wise, the most embarrasing situations were those of "non-preformance" so not sure if they count. Otherwise, I'd say when my father walked in on us and proceeded to make himself a sandwich.

Yes, even if I was listening to Journey while wearing hot pink tights under my super-short cutoff jeans. I felt good, screw everyone else. :p

Yesterday, I was trying desperately to think of what to post. Today? I was flooded by so many items to post! Where to begin....

*Song on your Ipod? If you don't own an Ipod, then what CD or cassette?
My Ipod has selections by..gasp! The Pussycat Dolls, Lindsay Lohan, Tiffany, Don Johnson & Eddie "Party All The Time" Murphy. Still, the trophy goes to....The Starland Vocal Band. My Ipod is pink, but I swear it turns red with humiliation everytime that selection pops up.Yikes..I also have "Cherry Pie" by Warrant. And yes, I own every Britney Spears CD. Her songs are so infectious to me!

*Item of clothing that you own or still keep in your closet?
I was given a candy g-string as a novelty gift for Valentine's Day. It's made of delicious candy necklaces!

*Thing you've done on a date?
My embarrassing moment was also one of my steamiest! It occured when my boyfriend & I first began dating. We had gone out to a wonderful dinner, followed by lattes at an intimate little jazz cafe. At the end of the evening we walked to the parking structure & hopped inside the elevator. It was virtually deserted, so when my boyfriend leaned over to kiss me & the elevator door opened, I just let it re-close. Soon, the kisses grew much more intense and passionate. His body was pressed against mine, and mine was pressed, and soon slammed, against the elevator walls and buttons. I dropped my handbag, he picked me up, and my legs were wrapped around his waist in the middle of the sexiest kiss when the door opened for the umpteenth time...to people wanting to board. :(

*Item you've purchased in a store?
Vodka & laxatives. This was a long time ago!

And for those wanting extra brownie points...
*Sexual experience that you've had?
Ooh..I opened this door, so it's only fair that I walk through it, correct?
I'll skip the details & just say this & only this..
Three-inch rugburn on my spine..:(

And how about the Carpenters doing a cover of Barry Manilow's Tryin' to Get the Feeling? And just about every other bad 70s am radio hit.

CLOTHING: According to my wife, ALL of my clothes are embarrassing, but she is particularly mortified by my Cowboys Make Better Lovers T-Shirt. And the Fat Albert pajamas.

DATE: Thing you've done on a date?

PURCHASES: Item you've purchased in a store?

My now ex-boyfriend & I both worked at Disneyland- me on Main Street & he on the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes. One night, after work.. we were in the backseat of my bitchin' Celica, parked at the old abandoned cinema that used to be across from the late Aculpulco's, which used to be across the street from Disneyland.

And suddenly, blinding lights flashing in my window. A frenzy of pants, belts, panties & bra ensued.

Ooh! Ooh! Buick wagon, and they used the big ol' flood lights attached to their car.

But I've got an even better one. First date, parked car (a few houses down from date's house since we were "cleverl"), steamed windows. Everything was fine until, after she went inside, I couldn't start my car! I had to go to their door and her auto mechanic dad followed me out to my car (I mumbled some lame explanation for why I was 4 houses down), where he discovered that the shifter was in drive. Oh well, at least I eventually married her.

'68 plymouth and 2 cops for ours.Pffft, 2?

We were in Irvine, in the hills near UCI where most of the professors live (hmm, I wonder why a 79 brown Buick wagon with fogged windows drew attention?). There were at LEAST 4. They did let us get dressed before getting out of the wagon.

Last night, I got to remember some fine sexual exploits that I had conveniently forgotten about. That was fun. I think I've forgotten about them again today.

The only time cops investigated my car goings-on my ex-boyfriend and I really were just talking. We just wanted somewhere to talk because my curfew hadn't hit yet. The cop was pretty funny - after checking our licenses he was all excited. "Hey, did you guys know you have the same birthday?!" Yes, we covered that. In fact, our parents had been married the same day and year. It was, of course, far too creepy to last.

Nothing like having parents who have a police scanner constantly blaring in the background when you get pulled over. Luckily they don't know what the codes mean or you'd be really busted. It's bad enough coming in the front door to the immidiate inquiry as to why your name was broadacast.

I think I'm more embarrassed, annoyed, puzzled and amused by the sex I didn't have or simply forgot-yes, forgot-to have. In high school, I was at the drive-in in the back of the Volare wagon with my girlfriend. I was trying to watch Airplane for the first time, and she kept pestering me. Fortunately, it was a double feature. I still haven't seen Up in Smoke.

I'm only coming out of hiding to answer the first question about the Ipod. I have a whole playlist of what people might consider "embarassing" songs. Hey, I have 30 gigs, I'll fill it up with what I want! So here are my choice selections:
These are the full albums
*Debbie Gibson- Out of the Blue and Electric Youth
*New Kids on the Block- Hangin' Tough and Step by Step
*Paula Abdul- Forever your Girl full album

Wait, it gets worse. here's some random songs:
* Wham- Careless Whispers
* Iesha- Another Bad Creation
* Jump- Kriss Kross
* I Sing the Body Electric- Fame Soundtrack
* Freedom- George Michael
* Forever- John Stamos ( the one Uncle Jesse sang to Rebecca at their wedding. )

And my favorite:
* The Urkel Dance- Steve Urkel.

Ahh yes. Thank the Lord for my Ipod!

What is the most embarrassing...

*Song on your Ipod? If you don't own an Ipod, then what CD or cassette?

I am not really embarassed by my music. I know I my tastes vary wildly from impeccable to impossibly bad. Top of my head, though I could care less, would probably be some Destiny's Child... (Baby boy! Make me lose my breath!)... and Styx... because... don't we all want to come sail away?

*Item of clothing that you own or still keep in your closet?

I just noticed I have my senior homecoming dress in my closet.

*Thing you've done on a date?

It was an honest-to-goodness accident when I threw my keys out in the trash. Unfortunately, he wouldn't believe it, I got embarassed and proceeded to stammer. Date ended well, though...

*Item you've purchased in a store?

Again, I'm embarassed by little, but BTD never noticed at the time that the first time we met I was buying lube at the pharmacy she worked at.

*Sexual experience that you've had?

Lube is an important issue with me... let's leave it at that.
