Teehee! The one about retrieving items thrown at crocodiles was particularly amusing to me.

I've seen that one in real life. At a gator farm in Colorado this past summer. (is summer gone already ? :( )

One the favorite I've personally seen was a sign in a Sacramento residential neighborhood warning of a speedbump:
Hump
Ahead
That must be god's gift to the area adolescents.

Some of those are real.....many of them have the hallmarks of Photoshop jobs. Fun stuff though.

Awww. They left out my favorite. When leaving Lake Isabella, heading back towards Bakersfield (on hwy 178) and approaching the mouth of the Kern Canyon there is a caution sign. At first glance it appears to be rocks falling on a car below, until you notice that one of the rocks is a cow (and yes, cattle have been known to fall on the highway, and every time it rains there is a rock slide).
My favorite (not a street sign, per se) has always been the reputed sign, somewhere in England, in the midst of a grassy meadow far from human settlement of any kind, which reads "Please do not throw stones at this sign."

The "Hell" sign is from a city in Michigan-- which is frozen part of the year.
The "Climax" sign is another Michigan city. They left off my other MI favorite, on I75, ext 69 is Big Beaver Road.
My friend Steph took a picture of another hump sign, and it was my icon here for awhile...

The hotel that most people who visit K-Mart headquarters stay at is at exit 69 - Big Beaver Road. During Heather's tenure at Joe Boxer, she had the pleasure of staying there more than once. The locals love it - she brought me home a t-shirt.

One of my favorites was a sign for the "Promised Land" in Washington. There was a big sign nailed over the exit sign saying CLOSED.

A favorite of mine has been "Informational Sign Ahead" also spotted in a Nor Cal road trip.

National Lampoon was a tremendous wealth of these kinds of signs and other such fun in the True Facts section. I've got a couple of the books. Easy to enjoy because most of it same in the pre-Photoshop days
Some of the phunniest stuff were the wedding and engagement announcements such as "Long-Cox", "Bunn-Grabs", "Snow-White", "Beaver-Trimmer", "Love-Organ". Although the best was probably When Carrrie Anne Cockman married Dr. Donald G. Dickman. She probably spent her whole anticipating getting rid of her horrible last name when she married.
ETA: I just checked, and there is a web site for True Facts (http://www.truefacts.com/). In case it changes before you look, I HAVE to mention the Slogan for the Sofa King:Our Prices are Sofa King LowSay the slogan out loud a couple of times - it will come to you

A used one is an interesting idea. I'm more intrigued about The "Wedding Registry" or "Share your own customer images" links.
