standing in a petrified forest
enveloped by the soft aura of timeless love from many ancient forms
youth repulsed by worn and experienced exteriors so laid bare
the relentless encroachment of too many trials and tribulations
hardened and unyielding truths which hide among rough and carnassial craigs
once they were eager saplings reaching up whilst bending toward the light
stately trunks anchoring earth to sky
sure and sturdy pillars offering so much taking so little
now set in stone frozen relics from another time
a caring touch from innocent inquisitive hand goes unheeded
yet the forgotten and uncared for stone sentinels still proudly stand watch
a streak of modern noise shatters the silence: A mothers shrill and hurried call
answered without words but with the nervous inertia to leave
stone ignores the grating cacophony but senses this change of state
the morning dew collects and begins streaming down
following well worn paths while dancing in and out of ribbons of sunlight
the child turns and hurriedly follows the well worn path
when in coming there was meandering slowly and looking up in wonder
now in leaving the purposefulness makes it so much the harsher
presences deep within stir
quite plain to feel and know if one were open to it
the trees themselves feel the touch of water now rushing in miniature torrents experiencing it much as it looked
tears falling in silent acknowledgment of the moment
