OK, so she's alive and can make her own choices... BUT she was suggesting ankle boots to go with skinny pants. /bleh.

Yea, so the skinny pants are back and Macy's is telling her what to sell but really, she is on WNTW people who watch WNTW are going to think it's OK to wear skinny pants. And really, being on WNTW she should be more selective in what she is choosing to endorse.

I repeat. Bleh.

I think Stacey is hardly one to tell others how to dress- I seldom see where she is wearing anything that outstanding on the show, and often some of her selections are downright tacky. I think her job is just to make snarky and rude comments about other people and make Clinton look nice by comparison. One of these days someone is going to smack her.

I've only seen the show once but if someone sicked them on me I'd be pretty pissed at my friends.

I wonder how often they show up and the target says "uh, no thanks."

I've hit the trifecta of ignorance here.

Who is Stacy?

What is WNTW?

WTF are skinny pants?

What Not to Wear is a TV show where people who are supposedly friends submit you to these two for a fashion overhaul:

Stacey and Clinton. Clinton's the nice one. Now, check out the fashionista's dress. I'm sorry, but that didn't look good on my grandmother and it doesn't look any better now.

Skinny pants are those pants we used to wear back in the Eighties- those of us who were into Techno/Punk and wore the skinny ties and high-tops as well, anyway.

Keeping in mind I'm hormonally cranky & I've never, ever seen this show....

I love, love, LOVE fashion! I love shopping, I love thinking of shopping, I love dreaming of shopping. Nothing makes me happier then matching outfits, shoes and handbags. Especially shoes! Dreamy sigh...I admit I have a weakness for designer stuff, too. However, I also love combing a good thrift shop. My tastes never discriminate & I'm certainly no snob! :)

Now, if these two jackholes showed up at my front door begging to reinvent me & tossing items I cherish into the trash as the picture wendybeth posted suggests, I couldn't get a Manolo stiletto up each ass fast enough. Thank goodness shoes come in pairs.

Fashion to me will always be the most beautiful form of self-expression & creativity. Dress how YOU want. Even if it's dated by societal standards and doesn't match, it's YOU. And that's an admirable and beautiful thing. :) :snap:

I like WNTW. Yes, there's the vicarious humiliation aspect, but the people who are on it look so amazing when they're done with the whole thing. And they do seem to select a variety of body types and focus on how to make each person look their best, as opposed to those makeover shows where the person gets a heap of cosmetic surgery, a dye job, and dental reconstruction to turn them into a glamazon. There was a time where I wanted to be on the show, but I don't think I have enough "after" potential and now that I'm looking for Serious and Professional Work I'd rather not be on a silly teevee show.

That said, I don't know what Stacey was thinking. But that's probably why I like Clinton best anyhow.

I'm trying to find something on Macy's site on this. I'm not seeing it. (http://www1.macys.com/catalog/index.ognc?CategoryID=157&PageID=157*1*24*-1*-1&kw=Pants&LinkType=EverGreen) Everything there has a flared ankle.

Anyway - I LOVE What Not to Wear. I've watched nearly every episode. I WISH I could get on this show but apparently I don't dress poorly enough for a friend to submit me. :) People always end up looking and feeling more confident and poised at the end of the show, even when they cry and resist. I believe the show helps me make better clothing decisions (though everyone I know can feel free to argue me on that point ;) ). All I know is, I have STOPPED buying baggy clothes. That's pretty amazing for me.

I would hate being on the show. I like my peasant skirts too much.

I don't care if something is in style as long as I like it, it fits, and it is comfortable. It is hard enough to find clothes that fit, if I made sure they were in style I would never have anything to wear.

I'm more than happy to dress all stylish. Just so long as all the stylish clothes are within the first 15 feet of the nearest department store and I don't have to go more than once every three years.

If it requires more work than that, I just don't care enough.

I'm in the same boat -- love the show -- love the outcomes -- and have learned to stop buying baggy. I've gotten many compliments since I've taken their advice (via the TV, I've not been on the show) to heart, yet I don't feel at all like I'm not dressing as me -- to the contrary -- I feel that they've given me options I'd have not considered before. I didn't realize I'd gotten close-minded about clothing until I started watching WNTW. And I love Stacy. LOVE her.

I don't care if something is in style as long as I like it, it fits, and it is comfortable.Which is why the show appeals to me. They (generally) to a good job of focusing on identifying basic elements of shape that work for individual body types, rather than what's "in style". If you know what works on your body, you can work within that to acheive any "style" you want (whether it's a current trend, a classic look, or something all your own). Nobody looks their best in clothes that don't fit right.

It was a revelation to me the first time I tried on a tapered dress shirt. I had absolutely hated the way I looked in a standard button up dress shirt until that point as any shirt with a big enough neck looked like a dress on the rest of my body. Now that I've learned what the right cut for me is, I have to restrain myself from buying a whole closet's worth at a time.

Oh, they would have a hayday with me on that show. In fact, they'd save my episode for "sweeps week", especially with my baggy capris, Crocs, and t-shirts.

But, I'd keep the tags on everything they'd give me so I can return it all after the show, and get more Crocs, capris, and t-shirts. ;)

I think knowing the clothing shapes that best compliment your body type is THE mist important bit of information someone can know about them selves. WNTW has done a good job of educating their viewers on those principals. Although, I much prefer Trinny and Susannah more direct approach - and I think they give more useful information. I also like that both of them have their own fashion challenges to get over and they both had to deal with pregnancy and fashion. (I like to see Heidi Klum's pregnancy outfits as well).

If only I could remember when the show ws on, I'd actually watch it more.

I was thinking of getting some. Will I look like an idiot? I kindof like the idea of shoes I can rinse off with a hose.

I was going to get some in black. Do socks look stupid with them, or are they really a barefoot kinda shoe?

They ARE comfortable, right? Cause if not, I don't care anymore.

I also need some black oxfords, but we'll save that for another thread, another day...

I'm in the love it boat. These people look so beyond horrible before hand! Not just average dressers. Really really horrible dressers. And they aren't totally brutal to everyone. Just the people that resist them.

And, I may get mauled for saying this, but Crocs are the ugliest shoe on the planet. No amount of comfort could make up for that amount of ugly. The shoe gods gave us Crocs just so they could laugh at us wearing them. (Runs and hides!)

Crocs are horrid. Plastic shoes are the debil (I once almost started a wildfire because of plastic shoes.

A bit of humorous overstatement, I hope.

I earned a place on someone's ignore list (on another board) for saying that Croc's look like clown shoes. I have a pair I wear for gardening. I don't wear them out.

As much as I hate admitting this, I've actually learned how to dress from watching WNTW.

I'm a 25 year old straight male who a few years ago had no sense of style. My sister was watching WNTW one day, and it happened to feature a guy who made the same fashion mistakes as I did. I learned quite a bit that day. And, I guess I'm in the minority here, but I find the two hosts of the show to be quite hilarious. One thing you can say is that they have good chemistry.

And, Not Afraid, just in case you were curious, TLC airs old episodes every day at 12 Noon.

I have to admit, the Munchkin has croc's. Since we wear the same shoe size I've borrowed them a couple of times. They do look like clown shoes but they are kinda comfy.

I must be out of the loop because I didn't know about Crocs. Are they really.....plastic? Because I remember plastic shoes from the early 80s and all I can say is, well, nothing nice, so nothing at all. *but holds nose* Sorry!

Crocs are out of fashion? Why are they everywhere now? I totally thought they were the new thing.

I was thinking of getting some. Will I look like an idiot? I kindof like the idea of shoes I can rinse off with a hose.Well, they are popular, but a lot of people like to argue that they're not stylish. And, frankly, they're not remotely stylish. (Thanks for pointing out the new flats though, BTD! I so want a pair!)

But, they are the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn, and my comfort is more important to me than someone's opinion of what's on my feet. (After all, walking all over the opinions isn't nearly as comfy. ;) )

I'm not into the zany colors, although I do have a "fun" flowered pair for the beach.

Oh, and another reason the WNTW hosts would cringe at me - I just bought new faded black jeans last night with zippered ankles, ala the 80's. I've missed those!! And, I'm wearing them right now. :D

Ah. Trendy v. stylish.

Comfort, eh? I promise not to get a clown color.

Alex
09-21-2006, 03:45 PM
It is the shape that makes them clownish, now the color.

When I visited my mom the other month I found that at some point in the two years since I had last seen her she had converted entirely over to Crocs as her footwear of choice.

Sadly I spend the rest of the visit trying to do subtle senility checks.

They have a mary jane style, too. I think I like it.

I've never been one for those silly pointy toed shoes. I don't care what Stacy says about how great I'll look in jeans, I'm not wearing pointy toed high heels. Ever.
