Hey everybody,

Just wanted to say that today was a very good day at work, and when I got home, there was something good FROM work in my mail box.

Dear Matthew,

Congratulations on reaching your five year milestone anniversary with Universal.

As a company driven by talented, dedicated people, we appreciate your efforts in building our success.

In recognition of your years of service, Universal invites you to participate in our Service Recognition Program by selecting an award from the catalog that you will be receiving shortly.

Please accept my personal gratitude for your contributions.

Sincerely,
Ron Meyer
President and Chief Operating Officer

Cool!

I've completed 5 weeks at my new job, but no such gratitude was expressed. The nerve! Anyway, congrats.

Congratulations!

I hope the five year awards for your arm of the company are better than the ones we get.

Wait, Steph, you work for the same company?

Also, congrats, man!

Congrats!

I wonder if any of the items WON'T be emblazened with "Universal Studios"?

Congrats!

This is a nice touch. The Hubsters job used to do that {long story} but now different management so no.

Do you remember if you received a chance to pick a gift at other anniversaries? Like, the first?

Practical things. We picked {ahem, yes, I did say we} an electric pump that would run off of the car battery. This was great for our cars and his bikes.

The other thing {maybe 5 year} was a under the counter cd player w/radio. He didn't like it. I insisted. We have used that soooo much.

Nothing had the equivalent of 'Universal Studios' on it. I think they must pay a company a flat rate and the people get to order things from a certain book for that rate.

It is cool. They don't have to do it. So :snap: to them and :snap: :snap: to you! Choose wisely, my son!

Congrats, Matt! :)

I've completed 5 weeks at my new job, but no such gratitude was expressed.

If they knew how hard it was to do your job with a ham lodged in your sphincter, they would be more appreciative, I'm sure. Maybe you should explain this to them. You can use my avatar if necessary.

When I hit 5 with my current employer, I got a plaque, with a little slot that they give you an updated nameplate every 5 years.

At ten I got the new nameplate, and a clock. It's a nice enough clock (glass, with a little 'roundy-round' pendulum thingy at the bottom, that runs off a different battery powered motor than the clock itself)

My previous employer at 1 you got a keychain and later you picked from a catalog. I got a little travel alarm clock with the company logo on it for 5 yrs.

Damn, I don't think I've ever made 5 Years with one company or if I did I got nadda.

Good for you.

I think you should pick four or five items you like and post a poll. Let us all vote on which one we think you should get and then you get whatever it is you want anyway cuz after all, what in the hell do we know. :D

Know what I got at 5 years? Nothing

At ten Years? Nothing

At twenty years? Nothing

At twenty five years (yes, I've been there that long!)

You guessed it. Nothing.

So all you folks who only get a little pin, at least it's some kind of recognition. And those who get more, congrats!

Congratulations on the milestone! May you continue to grow and prosper until you run the company!

I've got a friend who works for Universal, he's just passed over 20 years (he started as a gate guard at the studio and met everyone who came through said gates)

You know, I kid about the pin, but in reality, it's been nice to go to our company's quarterly all-hands meetings and see them give out 5, 10, 15, even 20 and 25 year awards on a regular basis. Considering that at my last job I was laid off during the 3rd round of layoffs within 1.5 years, it's a refreshing change to be somewhere that hangs on to their employees and at least does something to recognize it.
