Okay, I admit it, I love dirigibles and I love all that deep sea research, old wrecks and such. Found this (http://tinyurl.com/pye9u) on the news today, courtesy of our friends at Monterey Bay. Would love to see more pics. Love the colors on the wing of that bi-plane. Oh, I love bi-planes too, have always wanted to fly in one.

Edited to add the site with more pics (http://www.livescience.com/history/060928_airship_wreck.html)

Oh, and I love all the fish pictured, they're gorgeous colors!

Those are all cool things. Hard to believe the colors haven't faded much with all that time in the ocean. There are many airports that have old biplanes that will give rides. Here's one (http://www.letsgofly.com/)that has a nice Stearman that's probably not too far away.

What I love is how those bi-planes were launched from and recovered to those dirigibles. They'd sit on hanger deck, and then when it was time to deploy, they'd hang them by hooks from basically a big trapeze out the bottom, fire up the prop, and release. Then, to get back in, the pilot would have to get under the blimp, match speed, and hook back onto the trapeze! What a thing to have witnessed.

The Macon had to ditch into the ocean after a storm caused some rushed repair work to break and poke a hole in the ship. Of the 76 crew, only 2 died. One jumped too early. The other I've heard conflicting stories on. One said that in the confusion, he ended up in an area of the ship that was being flooded by helium and asphyxiated, the other version has him swimming back toward the wreck to retrieve personal items. Either way, the captain did a heck of a job.

Snark! :D

Okay, I was referring to how cool it was the colors were still bright on the wingsapn you can see. But almost any marine life is cool and weird colors, unless of course, it's on my plate in a sushi bar, then I want nice rbight tuna.

Thanks DreadPirateRoberts, you read me exactly!
