View Full Version : My obsessions...

I have just returned from my lunchbreak, during which I purchased a black tshirt. My second black tshirt this week, to be precise. I'm currently obsessed with finding the perfect tshirt. Preferably in black, but white will do too.

My secondary obsession would be nice underwear, particulary matching sets. Underwear didn't used to be an obesession of mine, but in recent years it's become more so. I. must. stop. I. have.enough.

Any other clothing obsessions out there?

Lordy, I'm going to sound shallow! and I'm not! :(

Shoes~ I labsolutely swoon my socks off (literally!) for lovely and beautiful shoes! Pricey shoes, discount shoes. This girl doesn't discriminate! :) I'm a hopeless sucker for shoes, especially stillettos & ballet flats. I'm living in ballet flats these days! I have some beautiful Manolo Blahniks, and I've already picked out my Jimmy Choos. Now I just have to get them! :)

Blue Jeans~ I absolutely love 'em! I have way too many pairs (or is it you can never have enough pairs? ;) ) I have three pairs by Paper, Denim & Cloth, two pairs of Seven For All Mankind, Citizens Of Humanity, Joe's Jeans, 3 pairs of Juicy Couture, 2 pairs of Blue Cult, two pairs of Earls, Buffalo Jeans, Dolce & Gabbana..it just goes on and on! I only listed the ones off of the top of my head. I'd scare everybody if I did closet inventory. I just live in blue jeans, though! I'm forever donating and rebuying. Obsessed? You bet. So much so I can't stop thinking about True Religions. :(

Why is it I feel so awful after posting this? I never share my spending habits for fear of being judged. :( :(

I used to be obsessed with a particular color. All manners of shades of blue-gray. For a while, every shirt I bought was some shade of blue-gray. My closet was beginning to look like it was coated in clay. We started calling the color "Grayg". It was bad. I've thankfully gotten beyond that.

Ew, Grayg! Ew ew ew. :p

I have bought so many freakin' striped shirts in the past year. I have 2 in blue tones, one in browns, one in green/black, one in pink/white. And this doesn't even count the tons of striped shirts I tried on. I look good in them, they're in stores now, so I totally stocked up!

I've stopped myself now - I think I've hit the limit. I realized I looked like an episode of What Not To Wear. I could hear Stacy and Clinton saying "What is it with her and the striped shirts? Put it down and try something else!!"

Many moons ago when I was teaching, I wore navy blue, khaki, white, black and grey.....and that was IT. I had like 75 grey shirts. I could wear a different grey tee every days for months....never wear the same one twice. It was weird!!! My husband and I would walk in a store, and he KNEW exactly which racks I was heading for. I remember when I added red to my repertoire I thought he was going to have a coronary.

I have a collection of jackets......I buy a lot of coats every season.....a lot. I bought this amazing Calvin Klein puffy down coat with a fur hood just before Christmas (just after buying a dark brown suede at Banana Republic and a Gap denim and a Gap baseball style)....and I haven't worn it in a month because I got home from Disneyland and bought myself a quilted black Ralph Lauren coat that I love. I've had my eye on several other quilted jackets and a pea coat lately....and a pink suede. Just waiting for the sales.

And scarves. I could tie them end to end and they'd stretch across the Golden Gate.......

I don't have a clothing fetish -- but I'm addicted to fabric. I have tub after tub of wool, linen, even some silk. And no time to make anything. ARG! And stuff keeps going on sale.

And we won't even discuss gourmet chocolates.

In Winter, I wear black ribbed turtlenecks almost every day. My favorite look is with jeans cuffed and my knee-high Fluevogs. But, I will also wear knee-length skirts and boots or just black pants. I dress up the boring color selection with scarves. I have a TON of both winter and summer scarves that I have picked up in Paris or other travel destination. Nothing makes an outfit unique like a scarf.

Now, with Spring stuff coming out, the only think I obsess about is white and black. I really hate spring colors. They look awful on me. Summer will be better.

I like texture - I like clothes that make you want to touch them, be it the smooth softness of leather, or the course weave of tweed. Tactile is good.

It's a good thing that I can't really afford to go clothes shopping all the time, otherwise I might be clothes shopping all the time. I have a problem with book buying. I'll read one, buy 10, read one of those, and instead of reading the remaining 9, I'll go buy 10 more.

I manage to resist the buying compulsion with clothes, but only because a book never seems as expensive. 1 book for $15-20. 1 shirt - my kind of shirt - for $40 -70. DAMMIT.

So easy in high school when I was ALL about the Salvation Army. I could buy TONS of clothes. But now I lack the patience to go to thrift stores. Vintage stores, sure, but a lot of the time the clothes is still pricey and I get really pissed of a dress I just bought falls apart on me after the first wear.

Ah, how I hate fashion but how I love individual styles. I covet someone with an amazing sense of style. But sadly my tastes lean towards the pricey these days.

I used to mad crazy sweater shopping. LOVE sweaters. But now I'm all about finding the perfect A-line skirts. And blouses. Because of my body shape, the blouses tend to drape off of my chest, and then do not sit snug on my waist. I need really well tapered blouses designed for my specfiic body type. Heh.

Shoes. Because I walk everywhere, I ruin shoes really, really quickly. And after some mad shoe shopping a few months ago I'm not at a point where I need a new shoe collection. Flats and airy for Spring. Back to the garment district I go, I think.

And Jeans. I LOVE JEANS. And so far the only jeans that look good on me are (shudder) Gap jeans. They just flatter. And I need at least two new pairs.

That's right: NEED. Not want. NEED.

Recently I've also been obsessed with silks. I really want light silk blouses and raw silk skirts. Mmm, raw silk.

Like Chris, I love textures.

I posted about my obsessions, but it never stuck to the page. It was a lot to type, but I'll have to tell you about it later.

I'll tease it with a little "I've been working an estate sale, and there were lots of cute things that didn't fit my small feet. :(" I'll be working there tomorrow... Looking at getting some great new old books. Lady was well-read and well traveled.. yada yada...

That was the gist of my original post.

I'll talk to everyone about it later.

P.S. You'd think that San Clemente would be warmer than LA, but nooo...

I have too many, waaaay too many.

At the moment it's BOOTS...I just noticed that one of my fave shopping sites has their boots at 25% off. I want some -- rain boots, ankle boots, high heeled boots, knee high boots and on and on.

I need another pair of boots like I need a hole in the head. I still have boots from last winter that I haven't worn, John Madden chocolate brown suede go-go boots. They'd be perfect for a swanker outing.

I'm also into the solid color ribbed cotton w/stretch sweater turtlenecks. I have black (of course) grey and burgundy. I would like some in cream, tan and brown.

I'm into the scarf thing too. I love silk scarves and I've been on a warm winter scarf buying binge (hats and gloves too).

Jackets, coats, blazers, down vests. Can't pass up a sale on a cute coat.

Shoes, shoes, shoes. I just got a pair of really cute Kenneth Cole shiny red loafers...I love red shoes.

Aww! Thank you so much UvaGirl for cheering me up! :) And thank you, too BarTopDancer! Hugs to you both! I feel a shoppin' meet upon us..

I was going through some shopping bags the other day that I have yet to unpack! ( I am so lazy about hanging up clothes. :( ) I came across two more pairs of Seven For All Mankind jeans that I had totally forgotten about buying.

Hi, my name is Ally & I'm addicted to all things denim. :(

Ooh! And I love delicate, satin and lacy camisoles in all of Spring's hottest shades! Vibrant salmon pinks, lemon yellows, beachy corals, lapis blues! I am such a sucker for all of the little bows & ruffles! :)

You know, I feel like I "need" to buy some Sevens or Papers or Citizens or whatever. But, want to see a fashion DON'T, put me in a pair. Those jeans were NOT meant for my body! I laugh whenever I try any of those brands - and others - on. It is really a sad sight. At least I know it! I could be running around in those things being laughed at in the same way I was laughing at the woman at UVA in bright green pants with BC BG bedazzled on her butt.

I know. I'm mean. See that "bad" thread I started.

Can't wait to hear about the finds! Estate Sales. Wheeeeeeeee.

I don't know if there's too much more to add, but here's what I went home with from the sale:

A knit cap. Fuzzy bucket cap. Beige knit scarf. Blue-green purse. Purple purse with gold design on front. Coral necklace, deep crimsony color. Red-beaded necklace. Two sets of earrings for the aunt, whose birthday is upcoming

That was all. I wanted more books, but by the time I left, I was fried & didn't want to take much home. :le sigh:
