On Wednesday I am taking Nickolas to the La Brea Tar Pits for his birthday (he will be 10). I was also playing with the idea of heading to the El Cap to see a movie. My question is, where is the best place to park at the El Cap?

The Hollywood and Highland Parking facility (http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/el_capitan/directions.html)is right across the street from the theater. It's very convenient.

And if you pick up a coffee at Starbucks (or anything from a restaurant/store there) they'll validate your parking so it'll be cheaper. El Cap doesn't validate, though-- the cheapniks!

There are also several parking structures down the side streets within walking distance. I use the one down the first street (I forget the name) to the right of the theater and on the same side of the street. It's closer than going to the Kodak parking structure across the street. I think it's $7 for the day.

El Cap validates for the Hollywood/ Highland structure. The stamp machine is located by the concession stand near the enterance. I always use it.

That's what I remembered.

Yeah, also I've learned I always seem to park on the green level. Most people I see take the first spots they see, but I go to the far end of the parking level and, so far, every time I've parked within a few spots of the elevator/ escalator. Hollywood/Highland is real easy to get in and out of. There's a stoplight to get you in and onto Highland very easily. IMHO. :) With validation, I only pay $2 for when I see a movie at El Cap. Works for me!!!

Thank you for all the replies! I talked to my mom tonight and it looks like we are going to do this after the Tar Pits.
