Happy Birthday Walt!!!

As founder of Disneyland and father of Mickey Mouse, Walt Disney has left behind a legacy that will continue to delight children for decades to come. Disney possessed an uncommon imagination and gift for the graphic arts that resulted in him covering his Red Cross ambulance completely in cartoons during the war. When the war ended, Disney wrote the featurette, “Alice in Cartoonland,” with his brother, Roy, and then started his own production company. With the advent of sound in movie houses, Mickey made his official cinematic debut in the talking picture, “Steamboat Willie.” Walt won the first of his 48 Academy awards in 1932 for the Technicolor triumph Flowers and Trees. That same year, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released, thus beginning a long tradition of feature-length Disney classics. Although Disney passed away in 1966, his name will forever invoke the smiles of children and inspire the imagination.

Happy Birthday Walt! I'm glad you didn't have a different surname so we didn't end up with WolfeschlegelsteinhausenbergerdorffLand.

Very appropriately, I just today received in the mail my latest Olszewski piece, in this case, the Main Street Station. It's loverly, and I am going to have a little dedication ceremony for it as I put it in my D'land curio cabinet, along with the Castle, Hub and City Hall. (Glass doored curio cabinets are a must for collectors with cats.)

I recently finished the very detailed Neal Gabler biography of Uncle Walt. It was a little slow going at times, but packed with information, certainly an easy recommendation for anyone who wants a very complete account of a remarkable life.

Here's a Walt quote you don't see too often, from the minutes of a story meeting on Fantasia:

"A ballerina comes out, a graceful, beautiful girl, and she puts a little sex into the damn thing... when she whirls up, you see the panties and her little butt - it will be swell! The audience will rave if you can make them feel Sex in a flower." Walt Disney

Not to steal his thunder, but I have to say - 5 years ago in the hub, a group of us got together to celebrate Walt's 100th. It was the first time I met ISM, Techie 7, and was still getting to know the few of you I had recently met. Nice to see most of us are still hanging around this place.

Thanks Walt, for the inspirations and friendships you help posthumously forge.
