So tonight we're doing some San Francisco swanking - going to see Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks (he of Pavement fame) at Bimbo's 365 Club. I just checked to see if there was an opening act, and it seems to be Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent. Having never heard her before, I checked out her myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/stvincent). Is it just me, or are these songs really, really good? Has anyone else heard of her before?

Hmm, to be honest, spending as much time listening to NPR/KCRW as I do, I've heard so many female singer/songwriters of this ilk over the last year that I can't get too excited about yet another one.
That being said, she's definitely a quality singer, and of the 4 tracks on MySpace, Your Lips Are Red definitely gave me pause.

A quick follow-up. She was great. Solo performance with guitar (one song on keyboard) and two mics (with different effects). Joni Mitchell vocals, virtuoso musicianship, with a touch of Weimar-era cabaret. Not sure how she put it all together, but it certainly worked for me.
In the middle of her set, I turned to Heather and said "Lisa and Chris would love this."
I'm certainly going to seek her out next time she swings West.
oh... and the Jicks set was perfect, in case you were wondering
