My very good friend, Bev, decided a few months ago to move back to California after a 2 year stint in Chicago. More importantly, she needed a driving buddy. So I left sunny CA on December 14th to arrive in Chicago around 6 or 7pm. Talk about an early start though, I had to be at the LBC airport by 8. Course I was there even earlier! When I arrived Bev had it all set up to take me to a club on Thursday night. For 5 bucks I got to drink all I wanted until 11pm and got to party with my new pal & Bev's friend, Jennifer.
Friday we went to another club called Club Buzz. For 20 bucks its all you can drink till 1am. Why can't we get that here!! Only drag was getting lost at 2am driving aimlessly thru Chicago. But I can't say I didn't get to see the town.
Saturday we were just too tired but we did enjoy a nice dinner in a very nice Tapas bar and some sangrias. Chicago definately rocks when it comes to FOOD.
We left Sunday and traveled to St. Louis. We stayed in a motel hell and found one restaurant open! The next day Bev had to have breakfast, but apparently no one was open so we settled for Hardies. The cool thing was we did Anheiser Busch. No time for a tour but at least I saw it. Off to Oklahoma City where we stayed with one of Bev's friend's family member. They were the nicest people!
Next stop was Amarillo Texas where we were trapped for 2 days do to the storm coming down from Colorado. We walked in snow, saw a movie, partied at the greatest bar in the world (Graham Central Station) and finally pulled out of Amarillo faster than saying "Let's get the HELL out of Dodge!" A quick overnight stay in Flagstaff then we went on to Vegas.
If you've never done the Hoover Dam, then its a must. It's just so amazing and fascinating. Course I'm a huge nerd for that sort of thing! That night we went out but who knew that Vegas was practically closed two days before Christmas! Oh well, we made the best out of it , did 2 Fat Tuesday stops and finished the evening at a place called Centrifuge at the MGM. It really was odd to be at a bar, in Vegas, that closed at 3am.
Finally we left Saturday morning and hauled ass to California. Christmas Eve was spent with my good friend Susan and Christmas Day with my other buddy Vicki. More importantly, I spent Christmas with all my good friends who I missed terribly.
I do have to say that although Chicago is a very cool and fun town, I still missed my Sunny CA. I'm so not a snow or cold person!! I'll take the traffic, the smog, the annoying 949ers, and deal with bars closing at 1am any day!
