View Full Version : Swanker Meet?

Do we want meets to be in this forum or in the Lizard Lounge?

Just wanted to know if we were cancelling the "Fab" meet on Sunday? If not, should we change time and location to avoid troll lurkers? Do we keep it the same and say "Who cares?" I'm just an interested party in hopes to hang with y'all again soon!

I'd say that the "Fab Meet" was all of us anyway and that we can go ahead and stick with the old time and place. Those that we left behind at Fab's Boards never attended anyway. ;)

Meets at DL should be posted in the DL forum, I believe.

Location, well right now, rain is an issue, and Fantasia Gardens has a large tarp :)

I always like the Cove Bar ;)

But the Grand Californian Lobby is a nice choice...

Time, I think Sunday's are better, due to the SoCal blockout policy.. time, I think we should avoid Noon due to the traditional ADD meet and that some folks here attend that meet on occasion.

But moving to 3 PM, heck, a thought, most of the folks show up late already.... :p

I am working on a set of meets associated with the LP boards and the Club 33 breakfast on January 30th...

So far, the Cove Bar on the 29th at 4 PM, and a couple of "Soak your feet, and anything else you want" at the HoJo's Jacuzzi on both the 29th and 30th... Anybody here is welcome to crash the parties :D

Does anyone want to stick to the old schedule from Fab's Boards to have monthly meets on the third Sunday of each month at 2 p.m.? This is in addition to any special events or themed meets, of course.

Sure, the Grand Cal's kinda swanky, but a Meet there would be totally Loungeville.

And yeah, Fantasia Gardens had the chairs and the rain tarp, but I never felt the magic there, never felt the charm.

The sap inside the coolcat me wants to go back the Hub. I know, I know, that would be so Squaresville - - if the Hub weren't round!

Oy!

I agree with the Hub. It's where it's happening. It's in the middle of everything. The Grand Cal lobby makes me sleepy and Fantasia Gardens is a little too Melvin. :insert nerd smilie here:

The GC is rather cozy. It could make me not want to leave. A little cocktail by the fire or on the comfy sofa. Nice.
I like the idea of moving back to the hub. Did you cats not like the digs at Carnation Gardens (or whereever)? Near the hub, lots of places to park the dogs. Or Town Square? Oh, wait, we don't want to be square. No L-7's here!

Howdy folks. Just a thought.

Al already meets at the hub at noon every Sunday for his meets and the new MiceChat meets. But since most of you are Al fans anyway, why not just stick to that schedule.

The Fantasia gardens were a nice alternative and covered, and the Hearth Lounge sounds like it fits this site better, but is further away from the parks. Better for a place to end up than a place to start. Does that make sense?

So what about noon at the hub? The two sites really don't need to be in competition.

Sound good?

Or carnation. I never liked the hub as a meet place with this large a crowd. Too many people, not enough seating, too many photos being taken. Carnation was good (we just need to pay attention to when the cloggers are there so we can change venue as needed!).

We're not really competing. Are we? I don't see why we can't join forces to play. But we may have to keep it somewhat limited. i.e. Fill and sink a IASW or POTC boat, fill an elevator on ToT, etc.

We have a few more days to figure it out...provided people are still coming and this damn rain stops!!

Come on Grumpy, you are a wanker, oops, I meant Swanker... ;) Hey come on, we have all done it at least once....

Has the group made a decision, based on what I read... not sure yet, some folks don't like the hub, and prefer another location. And if it isn't at the hub, it should be at another time, IMHO, either 2 or 3 PM....

The only Sunday I will be able to make this month is the 29th, so I will miss the meet, don't forget this sunday is part of a 3 day weekend (MLK), so the park will be extra busy....

So, I made a calander event for the 20th of February for a Lincoln meet. It's actually the 3rd Sunday of that month anyway. (go to the Calender for Feb and read away)

Since it says that the Refirb date starts on the 22nd (Tuesday) maybe do a geeky last show the last night. I'm not sure, however if it means, Monday the 21st is the last day open or 22nd (Tuesday) is the last day.

I'm still thinking we should keep Carnation Gardens at 2, or 1. I think 3 might be too late for some.

I bet Darkbeer knows...

Mouse Pad, twice a year, Saturday afternoon before MouseAdventure.

MouseInfo, I think they have had 2, and if you thought Fab's meets started late, one of those meets, the Owners showed up about 90 minutes late.

Laughing Place, a few a year, based around special events, next scheduled meets are January 28th and 29th, the Sunday meet (29th) is 1:30 PM at Fantasia Gardens, the next meet probably won't be until July 17th, though folks are talking about May 6th.

Lauching Pad, no idea.

MiceChat, I presume noon at the Hub, no announcement made yet.

I, too, think this is correct. That is why I mentioned joining forces or stick to the 2 pm meet. However, I thought people liked the Carnation Gardens when FG was closed. And it's near the hub, there's seating, not so many people, and on good days....clogging:D  .

Personally, I think wwe need to do Noon at the Hub for a multi-site meet and 2:00 at Carnation Gardens for a Swank meet. CG is more central than the Dock, so I actually prefer it.

Thoughts?

innerSpaceman
01-13-2005, 01:53 PM
Yeah, here's my thoughts. Noon has proved to early for most night-owl, swinging swankers. But some folks do want to get to the Park before our winter daylight's waning.

So - how 'bout NOON at the HUB for the early birds among us. We are pretty sympatico with the folks at MiceChat, so hanging with the remants of the ADD crowd and all the new Al Mininons that his new boards may inspire is something hip to do, and fun. The only thing they usually hit between noon and 2 anyway is LUNCH. (Be prepared for lotsa Plaza Inn or Carnation Main Street if you want to dine with Al).

Then 2 O'CLOCK P.M. - The inaugural Swanker Meet at Carnation Gardens off the Hub. Eat Lunch aforehand - cause after we hobnob, we want to hit some attractions.

Be aware though - this is not going to be the usual Sunday in the Park; the following day is NOT a workday, but a holiday. Crowds will be bigger. We will play as hard as we can, considering - - but don't be surprised if this "meet" ends up sweet in the Grand Cal Lobby before dark.

Does this mean it all settled? I love this idea. Let's make it official! I know some people like to get to the park early to avoid some crowds or to spend more time there because they have to leave early, so a nooner and a two-er is perfect!! So let's get it on the calendar

Early bird meet=hub at noon
Swanker meet=2 at Carnation Gardens

no snow, but, there have been landslides. in an effort to clean up and shore up, the grapevine (I-5) is down to TWO lanes southbound for a couple of months. Caltrans begins restriping tonight(1/14/05)...one of those southbound lanes is actually being borrowed from the northbound lanes.. so be prepared for heavy delays during rush hours.
