Someone over at MiceChat got to ride the Tea Cups after the refurb on Thursday...

http://www.micechat.com/showthread.php?p=14411#post14411

They had the teacups working on THURSDAY. As soon as I saw them working (knowing that they weren't supposed to be running until the next day) I ran over and jumped on (after getting off Matterhorn).

THEY DO NOT SPIN FASTER!!!
I repeat...

THEY DO NOT SPIN FASTER!!!
It's the same old story. After about 30 seconds everyone on the ride is just kicking back in the teacup, looking around to see if anyone could get their cup spinning...

It appears to have been just a rumor.

MAJOR BUMMER.... :( :(

You know, for a woman, my sister can really spin a mad teacup. Well, at least she used to be able to. :(

I went on them on Thursday also. I spun a bit and it seemed to be more free. I've never been much of a spinner myself, but I could tell it that when the ride came to an end the brake was in place. Hmmm.

A calm, rational and well reasoned response. I'll let it slide this time but if you do it again I'm going to have to give you negative-mojo. We can't let that kind of thing get out of hand around here.. :p

Oh, they'll just give you some line about the teacups always not spinning after a refurb.

Or they'll tell you that the teacups never spun, and it was all just a figment of your nostalgia. Happy Homecoming! :D

The teacups suck AND blow...

The castle should be renamed "Sky Princess Super Fantasy Castle", and every single person who signed off on the decoration should be forced to:

a) jump from the railing (hopefully to a horrible death by vicious swans in the moat)
or
b) impale themselves on the golden spires

ESPECIALLY whoever did the lighting for nighttime - I've seen better lighting design at a backroom strip joint.

Ugh. Teacups = blowful.

Night time castle lighting = vomitous.

Now, iSm having pointed out the fact that the new lighting actually succeeds in making the castle look like it did during the opening of Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color, when Tink flies around the screen and touches it with her wand, put a different spin on it. But then again, I never LIKED how they made the caslte look for those shows. Yes, I'm mildly impressed that they succeeded in reproducing it, but what they reproduced was the horribly fake look that the TVified castle always had. As iSm said, if they just used that lighting for a short moment, say during fireworks when Tinkerbell flies thus truly recreating the TV opening, that would be one thing. But all night? It's awful.

Heehee. As opposed to that ultra-realistic castle in the middle of Anaheim look it used to have. :p

Yes, the Castle lighting is sucky. Cadaverous compared it, quite nail-on-the-headly, to candy rave party lighting. They could have reproduced the WWofD opening with much more subtle and nuanced lighting - and, even then, it would be better left to the opening of the fireworks show where such a fake, 2-D, plastic look would be momentarily appropriate.

The teacups, on the other hand, we so improved that I'm almost willing to give Disneyland a pass on that. (Kinda like how I will fawn over the 25-year old Space Mountain reopening like it's a brand new E-Ticket).

The cups spun much easier than they did before this refurb, but not as easy as in days of yore. As the King of Swank pointed out - - they were easy enough to get spinning, but awfully difficult to keep spinning. (That said, hehe, my teacup with Zapppop and Gemini Cricket also at the wheel was said by the "judges" to have beat the King's teacup in spinfastitude!)

There a new ugly degorative railing around the top of the castle. It is (what else) Gold. In the middle is a single cursive "D". After seeing the bright pink castle lighting for the first time, I can only see that "D" as a "B".....for Barbie. I swear I say a Mattel logo floating on one of the spires.

Maybe I don't want to go to Disneyland this year.

I can go for a teacups spin by myself out here.

Heheh, no cameras around last night. (otherwise, oh the blackmail material we might have had ... no wait, that would have required wearing a wire ... nevermind).

Anyway, I suspect Zapppop will be making one of his frequent forays to the Park to update everyone via timely photography. Most likely that kinda stuff will be posted on MiceChat though.

I thought that the castle looked...ok. The railing made it seem cluttered though. My first impression was that it just seemed like there was too much "stuff" decorating it, which almost made it seem smaller, if that makes sense. As far as the lighting, it didn't bug me when I saw it although I agree with iSm. I would rather see it lit that way only during the fireworks. It might work better for a show. Otherwise, I would rather just see it as it normally is.

Interesting comment about Cinderella's Castle at WDW in Kevin Yee's latest article... (plus some nice photos)

http://www.miceage.com/kevinyee/ky021505a.htm

And then there’s the screen: "Above the castle's front arch will hang an enormous golden frame that holds a magical stained glass-style window. In it, colorful images of the five iconic castles from Disney theme parks around the world will appear at regular intervals throughout the day." You know as much as I do. That description is just enough to sound intriguing. I might even like this touch. Nothing screams "Disney" as much as the so-called iconic castles. If you didn’t know better, you might be conned into thinking the Magic Kingdom here in Florida is celebrating its golden anniversary.

Could this be coming to Anaheim????????

And of course, you have to love this comment...

First up is the most blatant of the changes around the Disney property: the gussied-up Cinderella Castle. As my wife and I overhead one Cast Member say to a Guest, "it’s for our 50th Anniversary." (There’s one under-informed CM, or at least one who cannot be bothered to explain the whole story to a Guest).

And what is turning 50 this year

I thought the tea cups were just fine. They don't spin as fast as they did long ago, but they at least spin.

And, after riding it this weekend, I realize why I hadn't been on it in 15 years. ****Ugh - motion sickness....****
