So Googles new map rocks. It's amazing. Too bad they didn't think to incorporate it directly into their local search at the launch. That is still using Map Quest.

Ummmm, I think it's still in the development phase. They wouldn't replace something proven and useful for their unproven product.

You can do a local search via their new map page. Development or not it's very poor planning on their part (and it can't be any worse than Map Quest which consistantly gives incorrect directions)

It's in Beta. That's what Beta is for, testing it out before fully integrating it into the main page.

I think they're smart. Only those that are in the internet know will look for their beta version, and they will send more intelligent feedback. A beta test is supposed to be smallish.

I stand by my original statement. Beta or not.Well, that's not how it works. You don't have a piece of software go live before it's out of beta. That's the entire point of beta teting, it's still testing. Yes, you can do a local serach from the beta version of the map, because that's a feature of the map that needs to be tested. But no company will ever make a product live until it's been through a proper testing cycle. And any company that does will always eventually shoot themselves in the foot by doing it.

I know how it works. And I disagree that they should keep it seperate, especially since their local search is still in beta. This is my industry. But whatever.

Hmm, didn't quite realize the local search was still in Beta as well. Then I'd suggest that having the local search as a live beta isn't a good idea.

That I fully agree with.
They added a link to their maps on the local site. That's a start.
