View Full Version : Spidey at Disneyland?!

Reports have been coming in to me tonight (Jan. 26) that Main Street U.S.A. is closed off because there's some stunt being filmed there ... with a Daily Bugle truck prominently in the scene.
This portends either very late principal photography for Spider-Man 3, or some sort of promotion for that film. It makes no sense, since Spidey is NOT a Disney property.
What gives?

Obviously someone dreamed that they would see Spiderman in DL!
Yeeeeaaaahhhhh...
Well given the amount of post production in a film like that, I'd say the odds of late principal photography seem low. The promotional thing makes more sense...but it still doesn't make sense.
I guess we'll just have to wait for more info.

All of which points out that there at Uni Park characters -and there are Disney Park characters - and never the twain shall meet. The Spidey movies belong to Sony, and the character is licensed to Universal ... Disney's arch enemy.
So what in hell was going on at the Park last night???

Matt, do you have a list of Disney projects filmed on the lot over the past year?

I've ridden from the upper lot to the lower lot in a Buena Vista Pictures van (complete with the castle logo on the side).
More specifically, Universal has the license for the Marvel Comics/animated world of Spiderman.

I see Buena Vista trucks and vans on the lot all the time (and Warners, Paramount, Universal, pretty much every studio -- we all share space around as far as I've observed). And Spidey 3 is still shooting on two stages. Not that any of that answers your question. I didn't see any location listings for S3, but if it was for a promo, it'd come out of marketing, not studio ops (my dept.).

Heehee, I love when :iSm: flies off the handle. :D
Like they're saying above - the studios always rent space off of each other.

Yeah, but this was not the studio. This was closing down a part of Disneyland during operating hours. I just don't get it.
I guess they were waiting to do the actual filming till after the Park closed last night, but portions of Main Street were closed off for setting up while the Park was still open. People called me from on-the-spot, and they couldn't get it either. Why on earth would Disney be filming a promotion for Spider-Man, when it's not their film and not their character?

$$$$$$$Bingo. Disney doesn't care what studio and why. If they pay the fee to do daytime setup on Mainstreet, they'll let them do daytime setup on Mainstreet.

Friday night? Really?
I was there (plus one, wink wink, nudge nudge), with NA, €, CP, GD, and GC, and we didn't see anything on the order of Main Street being closed.
Of course, I could have been so blinded by romance that I missed it, somehow.

I think Spidey was just waiting for a mojito to arrive.

oh, that's right. It was Friday, and the Park was open late (for winter horus). But I got two calls from separate people at the Park around 9:00 - 9:30 with this information. Hmmm.
And not that Disney won't do anything for money ... but what good does it do for Spider-Man to be promoted in a Disneyland setting? The location would have to be obviously Disneyland ... otherwise a generic mid-America, gay-90's setting would be far cheaper elsewhere.

We entered the Park at about 9:45 (for the first time) and didn't see anything unusual.
I just asked someone who works on Main Street (but in a store) and that person doesn't know anything about it (but admits that what's going on out in the street wouldn't necessarily catch the eye from the store).

To the "horrible swan things" and no further. We decided that Disney needs to implement a Main-Street-Only AP which comes with the benefit of being able to ride one ride per visit.

No. Of course not!
We're hoping that Disney will come up with a new AP concept that will allow us access to JUST Main Street and, on every other visit, ONE attraction.
Our APs expire 2/4.
