After Shawn Hornbeck was found and Michael Devlin arrested, it came to light that "psychic" Sylvia Browne had told Hornbeck's family that Shawn was dead. That, and the fact that she's on TV all the time peddling her wares, made me do a little web searching about the lady.

Check out this great site: Stop Sylvia Browne (http://www.stopsylviabrowne.com/home/).

Here's an interesting (and cringe-worthy) video. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFNKsmwgw8w)

What a charlatan!

I think she's the one who told the Boston cops that there were dangerous lite brites all over the town...

From the article about Shawn Hornbeck:

Browne told Pam and Craig Akers their son "is no longer with us" but she had the impression his body was in a wooded area about 20 miles southwest of Richwoods. She said it would be near two large, jagged boulders that seem out of place in that area.

The psychic said she believes the bicycle Shawn was riding is in a dump "in another state."

Craig Akers said that since the television segment was taped Feb. 12 there have been several searches conducted in the general area described by Browne, but with no success. He said it is in the middle of a national forest and they did not locate the jagged boulders.

Great, so the limited resources they had to search for this boy were wasted on several searches of the location that this fraud led them to. She was 100% wrong on every detail and yet, there are still people who believe she is the real deal.

I can't fault the parents for being desperate enough to ask her for help. But the waste of resources used on something that she just made up is criminal in my opinion. I hope this story makes some of these followers wise up and realize that they have been deceived by someone who is simply getting rich from their gullibility.

Makes me sick.

She's one of the top TV appearing psychics and is a regular on Montel Williams and Larry King.

In the skeptic community she has some notoriety because several years ago she was on Larry King and accepted James Randi's challenge to apply for his million dollar prize. Of course, since that time she has made no such effort.

Allison Dubois (inspiration for NBC's Medium) in Phoenix and James Van Praag are her fellow malignant scammers of prominence. John Edwards seems to have faded in recent years.

Not just the resources wasted but what about how the parents felt? That was cruel. Thank God he is alive.

Followed the link and cracked up at the 'Most Haunted' film clips.
