and I must be doing something terribly wrong, so far, I owe (1) The Feds $3600; (2) VA $963 and (3) CA $1012.
So right now I'm depressed

On no! Are you using a program or doing them by hand?
Are you sure you didn't transpose any numbers?

Did you take too many exemptions on your paycheck?

I just fininshed mine and e-filed.
Snowflake I feel for you. The Ex was famous for filling out his withholding wrong, meaning I'd get the stomache dropping surprise when I ran the numbers. Hopefully yours is just a number transposition somewhere or something.
I'm going to owe this year with means I don't have to do taxes until April 14. And I am pleased with one more year of using the 1040 EZ, which sadly won't be true next year.
Hopefully you find you made a big mistake somewhere. Nothing sucks worse than finding an unexpectedly big tax bill at the end of the year.

I'm doing H&R Block online which has never failed me yet. So, I deleted everything and will start again, making sure I enter everything correctly.
Typically, I have extra $$ taken out for taxes, just in case, but I'm not sure I did this when I started the new job here and I cannot for the life of remember what exemptions I took, I fear I made an error. Tomorrow I will update my W4 and make sure that extra $$ is taken and I don't overdo the exemptions.
If I do owe this much, I won't be e-filing until April either, I need to save the dough. Strangler, I feel for you!

I believe that with e-filing, you can file at any time, yet set it up so that you can pay at a later date (April 16).
Since Tax day falls on a Sunday this, you have until April 16 to file your taxes.

Actually, I read that it's the 17th this year. The DOC celebrates 'Emancipation Day', so it extends the deadline one extra day.
