A thread for useless (read: interesting) trivia. Post if you have the answer to the question "Have you ever wondered why?"

Q: Have you ever wondered why the candy is called "Milk Duds"?

A: Because back in the 1920s when the were developing the machinery to make them, they were suppose to come out completely round. But as they came off the machine, they continued to have a flat spot on the bottom. They called these "Duds" as they continued to try to fix it. Finally they gave up, and the name stuck. They now have the technology to make them round, but there's no since in changing it now.

Oh, and they do contain milk.

Info from the Food Network show "Unrapped".

I like watching Unwrapped, although I'm a foodie so I watch stuff like that.

I had always assumed that "Duds" was used as slang for "clothes," as in, clothed in milk chocolate.

I could watch Unwrapped all day, in spite of the horribly cheesy, pun-filled drivel that host Marc Summers is forced to read.

I gave em up after one stole a filling from me.

I like the idea of Unwrapped, but 30 minutes of Marc Summers' voice is intolerable. That, and after I watched a few episodes I found their coverage of the processes not particularly interesting. Mr. Rogers did better factory tours.

I loved Mr Rogers factory tours!! I learned so much from that man, he will be sorely missed.

GD, I know what you mean about Marks voice, I just ignore it. He sounds like he did children stories on tape durring the start of his career or something.....

Yeah, and now whenever I seem him I have to spend time wondering about his extreme OCD, particularly in cleanliness. I missed the part of the show about it where they would have mentioned whether he had it before Double Dare, but I like to think that the show triggered it.

If a filling is removed by food, it was eaither not installed properly, or became loose over time. Either way it was getting ready to need work anyway. Or so a dentist told me....
Milk Duds make AWESOME slingshot ammo...Why does this not surprize me? ;)

Q: Why do they call them "Burritos"?

A: A burro is used to carry loads. Tortillas are used to carry food. "Burrito" means "little burro". Or at least that's what I figured out. I could be wrong.....;)

Oh, and the "Why" could be changed with "what", "who", "Where", or "When".

And why do all those words start with a "wh"?

What's a Milk Dud ?

Is it chewy? Is it like Milkos ? Is it edible ?

Here. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk_Duds)

I Google Image searched on "Milk Duds", and couldn't find a good picture of the candies themselves (just the box).

They look kind of like big goat poop.

and the centre - is it a soft caramel, or the harder kind like you get in party-mix

...actually, considering the "filling extraction" properties of the candy, I'd say they're hard.

Have you ever wondered why Dell makes such crappy powercords for their laptops?

I am on my second one. The wires inside the insulation break. My HP doesn't do this.

LB- I'd say Milk Duds have a soft caramel center but it is very chewy. Unless you buy old ones, then they will break your teeth, maybe that's what happened with the tooth filling.

Mmm I'm going to try some Milk Duds when I get there, and maybe bring some back with me.

and now...

I wonder why Hershey doesn't sell Kisses in Australia ? We have to get them imported, and they cost a fortune. I paid $4.00 for a 1.55oz bag.

I know something else I'm going to bring back with me !!
