Introducing:
"The Disney Nemo inspired by Pixar's Finding Nemo"
and
"Disney's Buzz Lightyear Light Cruiser inspired by the Disney/Pixar release 'Toy Story'"
If they start naming ships like they name new attractions ;)

Sounds like there might just be another chance for trans-atlantic crossings. ;)

A trans-atlantic crossing on a Disney ship? I'll be first in line. (ok, second behind Disneyphile)

If they are going to make the Mediterranean a regular itinerary, wouldn't they just leave the boat there when completed? Or will the new boats go to the Caribbean and displace the Magic and Wonder to new itineraries?

I'm hoping they send the Magic to LA permenently. :D

Before you start putting these new ships on the West Coast, chances are slim that is going to happen. At 122,000 gross tons, these ships will not fit through the Panama Canal and very few make the run all the way around the Cape, so chances are these new ships will stay in the Caribbean or possibly Europe in the summer. If any ship comes west after these are built it will probably be the Magic, possibily the Wonder, but we are probably going to have to go east for the new ships.

OMG, if they *did* send one around the Cape, I'd totally be up for that! I wonder if they'd make it an Antarctic cruise? I've always wanted to do that!
I thought they had to special build a ship that could manage the Alaskan Inside Passage? That would point to at least one new ship coming West, because it's been established that the Magic and the Wonder aren't built for it.
Well, we've got years to speculate!

Probably never send it around the Cape, this would be an extemely long cruise and quite costly for them. Also have to be able to have a fuel stop somewhere. Antartic is definitley out, requires a special type of ship.
Neither new ship could sail Alaska either as they are two large and exceed the Federal guidelines. They would have to have the laws changed.
More likely they would take the Magic or Wonder as they can sail there. It is just the open decks and pool areas are not really designed for an Alaska cruise.

Yeah, give me the Magic. It's like floating crack to me. ;)

At 4000 passengers on the new ships. you are going to have to really like having kids around. This is a small ship for that many passengers. Going to be crowded. The new largest ship out there the Freedom of the Seas carries 4000 and it was not to bad fully loaded but it is much larger.

Frankly, I'm not too worried about the new ships. I just want my Magic. :D

Rats. Ah well... some day I'll get to Antarctica, even if I have to hop on a cruise ship from Argentina.

I'm still waiting for them to build the first cruise submarine based on the Nautilus - that's my Nemo

Will it fit through the new canal retrofits? They are set to be done around the same time the ships set sail.

The retrofits on the canal are not scheduled to be done until 2015 and that is optomistic. I have heard one ship is supposed to be desigend to fit, but I am skeptical at that size, so I will wait until they release the actual measurements. Even if it could fit, that is an awfully large ship for this market. At 4000 passengers a week, it may be hard to fill. Disney gets a majority of its cruise business from East of the Mississipi (as they are freezing in the winter and want to go somewhere warm) so it makes more sense to have the larger ships on the East Coast. With 4 ships, I can see them doing more one time itineraries and moving the ships around during off season in the Caribbean.
It will be intersting to see what they do. They are a glut oaf new builds coming online for all the cruise lines, so it will porbably be godd for the consumer as rates for the cruise should come down.

I would really like to do a Disney cruise to Alaska. Especially if I'm still living in this area.

Will Disney send a new ship to the West Coast or the Magic or Wonder or possibily none at all?
You decide.
