So aside from the lame ass tagline... The 9-11 refrence is intriguing to me it's ment to shock eh? Or it is actualy so monumental as to be inshrined in our colective conciousness? Perhaps it would be prudent to salvage parts from them to be used in the laptops of ponytailed sudo-marxists, leftist bloggers, and religiously peace obsessed hippies so that they too needen't ever forget how facist and horrid our country, Bush, and Republican flagwavers are. (Oh wait that's right not the country, not the country man.... Just the other two right? Right.)

This is indeed a good counter to the powerful symbolism of worldtrade center steel used in the new class of US navy vessles. Touche! And well met, a good find indeed.

Of course, I did post that in all seriousness. I hope no one took it as a joke. Because it's just not funny. Nope, not at all. These are very serious issues! Our country reacted accordingly. In fact, how the hell do we know that any fellow people here on LoT are not terrorists? Any of you could be plotting the world's demise, and passing it off as your uber-cool "swankiness". We must be diligent at all times. I'm watching you especially, CoasterMatt. I don't think it's just a coincidence that you had a major issue of national security as your avatar. You sick, sick puppy.

And well met, a good find indeed.Hmm. *reads post for a third time* You didn't mention Boston, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, advertising, pranks, or bomb threats. You also didn't say that you supported Boston's freak-out over blinky lights. In fact, you said nothing about the topic at hand, so I have to assume you posted this in the wrong thread. But that begs the question - what the hell ARE you talking about?

*read it a fourth time* and try not to miss the forest for the trees. no better yet since you are assuming leave the trees as read (Although I do go on the unfair tangent of comparing my own hypothetical to a real world equivalent.)

I love the history and texture of Boston but don't care much for it present day.

As for ATHF tell me THIS (http://edork.ytmnd.com/) isn't suspicious.

Advertising seems to attract more than the average amount of sleazy fvckers into it's ranks.

I love relatively harmless Pranks but know all too well that they can go too far get out of hand and cause a range of property/emotional damage and emotions both to individuals or the public at large. Annoyance all the way to full blown terror. Once found out as a prank/hoax/street ad law enforcement escalation should shift from protection to as quickly as possible getting ****e back to normal (this seems not to be true for many in the media politicians or prosecutors who are reacting with other motives than imidiate public safty)

And as for support over a freak out why would I in hindsight offer that? I think the guys who did it were fall guys to be sure but also arrogant pricks whoring in front of the media circus that erases any sympathy for them being over zealously prosecuted to me.

I can understand if not support Boston's Emergency services / Police procedure when getting multiple calls about similar suspicious devices treating it seriously until proven otherwise.

Where it went from there was out of hand on many public and private individuals part but what do you expect from cops or politicians or comedy central employees or agents we are living in a nanny state so who wants to take the initiative to risk their ass on being wrong/liable/accountable? Everyone is in CYA mode nowadays and acts accordingly. Would you stick your ass out on the line if you got a phone call saying we think they are harmless but there are these light bright looking devices all over the city and we don't know how many there are yet also bomb squad is on it's way but they wont be there for 1/2 hour should we implement emergency plan X?

And come the fvck on. "If its not a flag it must be a bomb" despite its context and overtones that I find annoying isn't it just too trite and plain stupid for anyone else? If I saw it on a bumper sticker I would wish the driver a full anal cavity search and a delayed flight.

"If its not a flag it must be a bomb" despite its context and overtones that I find annoying isn't it just too trite and plain stupid for anyone else?I wouldn't call it "trite" because I hadn't heard the line before. As for stupid - it seems fresh, funny, and pointed to me.

Here's my interpretation of the rest of your post...

1. Something about "forest for the trees" that I find as unintelligible as your original post

2. You don't like Boston these days. I've never been there so I have no opinion on the town itself. I think it's lame how they reacted though, so so far we're in a bit of agreeance

3. A joke about ATHF being suspicious

4. Advertising attracts sleazeballs. I know a few lawyers now so I've stopped judging people by profession

5. Pranks can get out of hand. Can't argue with that

6. You don't have sympathy for the perps. I wouldn't use the word sympathy for how I feel, because I saw the interview with them afterwards, where they cracked my sht up. You don't feel sympathy for someone who didn't back down because the world is filled with fear

7. Take it seriously until proven otherwise. Ok, finally, we come to the conversation at hand...to which my response is.....dude, really? If I called the cops and told them there was something on a building depicting an LED figure flipping me off, they should bring out the f'n bomb squad? Really?

8. Nanny state - I agree with that

You do a great job embedding your opinions in your posts. It's a time-consuming pain to extract the meaning, so let's call this a rare exercise. I have only so much time to read the board and this response took my entire 15 min morning glance, so excuse me if I can't continue responding here.

Oh, wait. You're already back from London, so that flight can't be delayed.....

Wait. You went to London? How unpatriotic! If you like it so much there, you should have just stayed! You should be spending that money in America and supporting our country. You infidel traitor!

Ugh. You just make me sick.

Upon arrival at LAX immigration, I was struck that a single portrait of G.W. Bush, on the wall and I whispered to Not Afraid, "I thought they only did that in fascist countries." Honestly, I don't recall portraits of the Queen or Tony Blair greeting me at Heathrow.

There are pictures of the president in all the federal buildings and courthouses I've been in. Unless having it at the airport is a new post 9/11 thing, you would have seen Clinton's picture back in the good old days.

I suppose it's helpful to know what the "boss" looks like, in case he comes in to poke around, but still the practice baffles me.

It used to be a picture of Tom Bradley. If they put one up of our current mayor then you might have something commrad.

Tom Bradleys wife used to and I imagine still owns much of the consession rights at LAX does that rub you the wrong way at all? Or is it a wash compared to the evil bushhitlers Smirk? That alone might ruin many peoples day.

I suppose Tom Bradley's pic in the Tom Bradley terminal wouldn't phase me, but we went through United's terminal, so if I were greeted by it, or the current mayors face it might still strike me odd, but as a Mayor I'd just chalk it up to local political cronieism - but I normally think in terms of nations rather than cities being facist, so I likely wouldn't have made the remark.

As for concession rights, eh that's capitalism for you and god knows one needs some starbucks before boarding.

International travel doesn't do much for patriotism.

That's interesting that you say that, because my own experiences couldn't be more opposite. I've been very blessed to have been able to travel all around the world and experience many different cultures and peoples. In doing so I’ve gained a profoundly deeper understanding of the world and where and how we fit into it, yet every time I leave the country and discover a new place it not only causes me to gain a newfound respect for yet another culture but also an even deeper love for our own. When I was seventeen and had never ventured across our borders I was what I thought was patriotic (I said the pledge sincerely, looked upon the flag with deep respect, lit off a truckload of fireworks every fourth of July, etc) but it wasn't until I spent a summer living in Europe that I realized just what I had to be thankful for and proud of and why. The more I have continued to travel since then the deeper my sense of gratitude for the U.S. has grown. I admit that we are not infallible and by no means a perfect nation, but more so than anywhere I've been (with the exception of maybe Switzerland. I still can't get over how amazing they are) the U.S. constitutes a truly remarkable world of liberties, possibilities and luxuries. There is a very long list of countries where I would be more than happy to live out the remainder of my life, but the U.S. will always be planted firmly at number one, and it’s mainly because I know what a few of my other choices would be now.

Anyhow, sorry for being long winded. That quote just got me to thinking...
