View Full Version : Okay, this week, this month, this year, my life sucks

Clearly, I've gone around the karma wheel this week and it's my year, so far, to be mired in crap. I went over my $$ situation given the car thing and upcoming rent, bills, etc. and I realize, I cannot even squeeze out any mad money for LA next week and am going to have to shelve my DL trip. This bums me out more than I can say, at least I will see the Lashes when they are in SF in April.
On the drive home last night, because the car is not yet repaired (they tapped me out last week) part way home, on the freeway by the airport, the engine started with it's not happy sputtering. I, of course, freaked, moved to the slow lane in case I had to bail. I got home, but realized, I cannot really drive the car, and should not. So, I went over those finances and looked at what needs to be done on the car, I've got to come up with $2500 to $3000 to get everything done (which is preferable, really, get it all done and I'm good for the next year or so). So this is just for the car.
Why am I worried about this? Well, I'm not totally tapped or maxed on credit, but I am trying to keep something in the hopper, just in case. You see, my roomie is not working, has not been working since she returned and that leaves me sole breadwinner, my bills, the household bills, the groceries and the rent. Rent is due next week and, le sigh, I'll be consuming rice & beans whilst I budget to afford the car repairs, etc.
So, right now, I suck, no wampum, no fun for snowflake until I get all this done. Thank goodness I have a backlog of DVDs I have not yet watched (like the 8 or so Disney Treasures tins I've picked up slowly over the last few months).
Sorry, I needed to whine, I'm done now.
Ugh, Snowflake. Is there a possibilityl the car repair place trade you answering the phones or typing or mopping the floors or whatever for repairs?

OK, the LoT Commune needs a money tree. We need to stop having these "financial issues."
Because mine drive me nuts. So sorry Snowflake, for yours..

Money can't buy happiness...but lack of it sure can make one un-happy;)
Don't worry Snowflake. The Roller Coaster of Life sometimes has to make an E-stop;)

Hey, thanks all for your support.
The upside is, at least I can catch up on reading while I commute by train to the office (at least I have this option) and I exercise my fast pass in SF (not to mention some exercise for me too in walking more).
I know all will work out in the end, just need to be patient.
Money does not bring happiness, but it sure helps to have it around in case of emergencies! :D

Have you gotten a second, third opinion? Can you (or a friend) do any of the work yourself? I know less about cars than I do about Cosplay (what the hell is that all about anyway....) and even I could change the oil, replace an alternator, etc... Perhaps you can find a mechanic that moonlights.
As for your roommate, friends are good but you need to live too. Perhaps it's time to explore some "options" (<-cue ominous music). If not rent then perhaps barter for other things that take up your time/money.

But we want an E-ticket. That's it, maybe I should buy a Autopia road vehicle, not fast, but.....

I'm sorry. I'm sure your Disney Treasures tins will be happy to be viewed.

This mechanic is my second opinion. It's not that I don't have faith in them. After all, the car has had a lot of hard driving, so I am not too terribly surprised, but maybe this is more reflective on all the years of taking it to the dealership for repair and maintenance?
My experience with mechanics who moonlight is not too good. ;)
As for my roomate, she's actively looking for a job, so all will be well in the end on that side as well. Just need to be patient.

Have you thought about getting a Civic or a Corolla with the money you would need for repairs?

I'm just sad I won't be able to see you! If anything changes, you have a room at the Hotel Swank with your name on it.

Color me stupid, but I always thought San Francisco was one of the two American cities where you didn't need a car.
Not to make light of your situation. But you're still you, no matter what happens. Don't let the rollercoaster get you down (then up, then down again).

Nope, within the city I certainly do not need a car. If I were still working downtown, I'd not need the car. Alas, I work on the penninsula and while I am currently entraining to work, using the car would be preferable.
Since it was nearly paid off, and I thought in better running condition than it currently is, it would be good for road trips and absolutely for errand running (car rentals can get expensive after a while).
Anyhoo, thanks for the encouragement!:D

Hugs to you Snowflake! You will make it through this. I've been there, so I know all too well.

Snowflake, I totally hear you on the finance issue.
I'm $10,000 in debt from the first attempt at a college degree I didn't get, and I'm stuck at home with my PARENTS working a part time job because my stupid little hick town has no jobs available. And, as much as I'd like to go back to school to get out of this hick town, I owe so much already.
And, since my parents truck broke down (and since I am such a chicken to get my driver's licence), I am without wheels myself. So, I can understand that issue too. :(
So, I know what you're feeling like...all I can offer you is my sympathy, and the hope that both of us will win the lottery someday. :)

See? Enough with my whining, already. My friend, may the MOJO Fairys send you enough moola to pay off the debt and even more to get you out of town and in a job you love with plenty of extra scratch.
Now, the question is, porn site aside, what can you do in an online business? Ebay? Then again, not having seen you, maybe a porn site is a good, and lucrative idea?
much visible mojo to Jughead.

Oh, man...now I feel bad for stealing your thunder!
In all actuality, I'd like to be a published author...but I need a lot of training before I succeed in that!
And, Snowflake, I know times seem really tough, but you just stay positive, and keep having fun here!

Pshaw! Not stealing thunder, you've given me a reality check to stop with the whining and move on!
So :snap: to you and everyone else! Things will all work out, I'm just missing one of what will probably be one of the best Disneyland meets ever. :(
As for your wanting to be a published author, keep writing, writing and writing. Have you posted anything here on LoT in the Open Mic thread, you should. That way you can join the large group of LoT artisans of the quill! I know I'd not be the only one interested in readin what you're writin!

As soon as they move the business of Goverment out west. I know where my toast is buttered so I'm stuck here... ;)

Ahh yes, it was one of my infamous drive by visits... However I would have to contend that the pleasure was all mine. :snap:

Well, the good news is, I'm enjoying the train commute. It gives me a chance to catch up on audiobooks I bought for the drive cross-country and podcasts I subscribe to. Ive been woefully behind on listening.
I peddled a great vintage poster to the Academy (that they do not have in their collection), alas they are at the end of their fiscal year and have no money either, but they are interested. So, while not timely now, this is still good news, come July, I will revisit that and likely pass on the poster for about 4000 semolians, which is significantly more than I paid for it originally. This will be plopped in the bank account and pay off the credit card charges I've racked up this last month that I like as not will not have been completely paid off by then (unless I have an ebay windfall from selling something else).
In the meantime, to replenish the coffers for the needed car repairs, I've been selling a few goodies via ebay and to a few other collectors privately. So, by mid April the car should be in the shop getting fixed and I've got a JetBlue flight booked to Long Beach for a DL trip May 5, 6 and 7th. My AP is blocked on Saturdays now until after Labor Day (I think, maybe longer) so I won't be visiting on the 5th unless I decide to spring for a day pass.
So, as was wisely pointed out to me, this too shall pass. I'm on an upswing, woohoo. :D
