Does anyone have any good resources for laptop cases. I need one that can handle a 17" monitor and it seems like everything I find is in the $70-100 range. There has to be a better alternative than that but I'm not sure where to look. Target was useless as was the Dell site. Any ideas are appreciated!

Steph got me an awesome bag at CompUSA. I think it was $60. She had to search around for one as my laptop is also a 17" screen and nobody seems to make bags for these. She says that Circuit City also had some, but CompUSA's were nicer.

Do you want just a sleeve type case or a big bag/case?

Victornox is made by Swiss Army and is great quality for reasonable prices.

I have a scooba sleeve from roadwired (http://www.roadwired.com/) that I love.

I recommend going to a store, finding the bag you like and then going to look on eBags and Amazon for better prices.

That's part of the problem. I kind of want something in between. Something that doesn't look like an overnight bag but also has enough room for the power supply, mouse, etc.

I will check into all of the resources listed though. Thanks, BTD and Jazzman!

I am in love with my OGIO "Hip Hop" (I know) messenger bag. It has a compartment for my laptop, an area for my cables and stuff, a back zip pocket for papers, a pocket in the back for airline tickets, one in the front for sunglasses, one for my PDA, one for my passport, one for my iPod (with a small port to thread my earbuds through), one for a cellphone (I use it for an extra battery), plus two mesh pockets on the sides to hold water bottles. Easily the best $70 I've spent on a laptop case.

Here's the official OGIO site for the bag (http://www.ogio.com/product.php?product=96).

And it looks like this:

Chris and I both have Tumi bags.

I have this one in orange which fits my 17" MacBook Pro:

Chris has this one in Tan which fits his work laptop:

Tumi makes a FANTASTIC bag. High quality and versitle, however the trick is to find them on sale. They can be really expensive. There are several Tumi outlets where discontinued colors can be found and the Tumi site occasionally has sales. If you can find one on sale or one on ebay, t is well worth the price for this excellent bag.

EDIT: I'd watch this auction. (http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Tumi-Briefcase-Messenger-Bag_W0QQitemZ320096028212QQcategoryZ16085QQrdZ1QQc mdZViewItem)

Ah, I knew the LoT was the place to go with this question. :)

I must say that the OGIO bag is pretty damn close to what I'm looking for. Thanks, mousepod!

Lisa, those look very cool as well. I did check out the auction but the dimensions of the bag offered don't appear as if they will fit my beast. Still, I'll keep an eye out for bags of this type, as well.

Another question: would I be wasting my time checking out a swap meet for something like this?

Well, the decision has been made. I found one of the OGIO bags on ebags.com for $62.99, including tax/shipping. Should be here in 3 days.

Thanks, mousepod, and thanks to the LoT! :)

What color did you get, MBC? I like that bag a lot!

I went with the black one. I kind of wanted the burgundy but they didn't have it in stock.

Well... Papa's got a brand new bag. ;)

It just arrived today and I'm in love with it. Everything I hoped it would be and more. So, at the risk of being redundant, thanks again everyone, especially mousepod, for some great advice!
