View Full Version : We're getting a Wii, anyone want an XBox?

I'm getting the deal of the century thanks to CP's brother's fickle ways. He's decided that the Wii fails to meet his gaming needs (i.e., sitting at home alone playing with no one or playing on line) and wants an XBox 360 instead. So he's selling us the Wii with two controllers/nunchucks and something like 6 games...for $350. The games alone would cost nearly $300!

As such, to offset the cost, we'll be selling our XBox. It mostly gathers dust these days anyway. I will sorely miss the Burnout series but it will be well worth it as I expect to get far more game play out of the Wii. I'll ebay it, but thought I'd give the LoT first crack. If you're interested send me an offer.

I believe I've got 9 games. Off the top of my head:
Top Spin (came w/system)
NCAA Football ('06 I believe, also came w/system)
Burnout 3: Takedown (freaking awesome)
Burnout Revenge (freaking awesome...with revenge)
Jet Set Radio
Sega GT 2002 (Jet Set and this are on the same disc)
Fable
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Far Cry Instincts Evolution

I'll confirm that list when I get home (I do have all that are listed, don't know if I'm missing any). And no, I didn't forget to list Halo, never owned it (I'm not a 1st person shooter type).

Something else to confirm when I get home, I THINK I have 4 controllers. I know I've go the one that came with the system plus one wireless. And unless I'm crazy (entirely plausible) I got 2 additional wired controllers.

If you're interested, drop me a PM and we'll see if we can agree on a price.

OMG, I'm so excited about the Wii.

Why can't you have both?

The games can be completely different.

I understand offsetting the cost of the Wii but perhaps he'll accept payments {so not such a big purchase at once} so you can keep them both.

In our house {in an undisclosed location;) } we have pretty much all systems. Some games just aren't available for some systems.

And me, I have a DSLite. Love it. Bought it for one game. It's all I play. So far.

Good luck on your selling it if you don't change your mind....

I'm with Mouswife- if you can keep it, do.

In our living room we have a 360, Wii and PS2 hooked up. Too many games are still released on different platforms-

What game on DS MW? My family is currently hooked on Animal Crossing Wild World- mom, dad, me, my SO, and my daughter! We also love Nintendogs- we have other games but AC:WW and Dogs are the most played.

Like I said, the XBox pretty much collects dust. The two versions of Burnout have provided many many hours of entertainment and were worth the price of the system alone. But I've played them to death and overall, much as my brother in law is getting rid of the Wii because the types of games available on Wii don't really fit what he wants from a console, the same goes for me and XBox.

For the most part, each system excels at certain types of gaming, and no matter how much comparing of specs and graphics quality and other point-by-point comparisons, it all comes down to what kind of gamer you are.

XBox - Online gaming. It's king in this arena. XBox Live is a huge hit and the bulk of the game development energy goes into the XBox Live play. What this results in is few games that work well as single player, and even fewer that work well as multiplayer-in-person (i.e., have a bunch of friends over and play). It's been pretty consistent over the last few console generations.

Playstation - Involved single player, RPG type games. The Final Fantasies, the Resident Evils. If you're looking for something to eat up hours at home, this is your system. Secondarily, there are a handful of good multiplayer games.

Nintendo - Party games. Games like Mario Kart where a bunch of people can come over, pick up a controller and have a blast, no matter their skill level. Sprinkle a couple consistently good single-player options (some incarnation of Mario and, of course, Zelda) and voila.

For me, Nintendo's model continues to strike the right chord. I mostly want games I can play with friends in person, occasionally getting lost in an epic like Zelda. The XBox completely failed to deliver that for me. Once I burned out on Burnout, I have yet to find another game that's captured me, and have never found one that works well with two or more people.

So I'm not really going to miss it. The financial offset will definitely be a greater asset to me than having the system.

Oh, and I remembered that I also have Soul Calibur 2 (admittedly my favorite fighting game ever), so that makes 10 games.

Plus, if I ever need a change of pace we still have Dreamcast with one of the greatest games of all time (San Francisco Rush 2049, battle mode). AND Soul Calibur.

I got hooked on 'Club House Games'. It has all sorts of games on it, Chinese Checkers, Checkers, Spit {Speed to me}, Memory {concentration}, Darts, Bowling, Billiards, and a bunch of others.

It has settings to play the games against the computer or others as well as Missions {to beat levels in certain times/ways, really hard some of them}as well as Stamp where you earn stamps according to how well you play that level.

Wel, GD, if you won't miss it. I guess we just really are addicts. :p

I have a SEGA as well as the older Nintendo systems in boxes that we pull out when we want to.

But, the kids like to trade/sell off games. I don't.

Oh, I'm an addict, XBox just doesn't satisfy my fix. I've still got my NES and the Dreamcast. I just never found enough XBox games to get particularly attached to it. I really wanted to like the system, it's technically stellar. I'm just clearly not the target audience for XBox game developers.

Hey GD- remember that Soul Caliber 2 also has a Nintendo incarnation.

I totally understand where you are coming from now that you explained it-I bought an XBox for the guys in the house and I have yet to play it. Not interested- at all. For me it's the Wii, DS and PS2.

Congrats on your Wii-do you know what games you are getting? So far we have Wii Sports, Wii Play, Elebits, Wario Ware Smooth Moves and Rayman Ravin Rabbids. I highly recommend those last 3 especially!

We just bought God of War 2 for the PS2 so I am sure that will be the latest addiction in the house-

Wii Sports of course, Zelda, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Madden, I think Call of Duty. Not sure what others.

Oooh, just saw that Square's going to put out a Final Fantasy for Wii!! And there's supposedly going to be a Guitar Hero within the year. :happy dance:

When will they have the three player game where one person plays the Guitar Hero guitar for that part of the band, another is on the drum simulator controller, and the third is a back up dancer on the DDR mat?

I have heard the Wii has taken over the market.

Now there are some rumblings going on in the house about the XBox being changed????

Anywho, yeah, I haven't actually played any of the newer systems. Bomber Man, Pac Man, those older games are my type.

Cool they are having Guitar Hero for it!

I wish {and tell me if they do!} they had a way you could upload your favorite songs.

I think there need to be more Soundgarden songs. And RHCP ....:snap:

I'll talk to a friend who's involved in designing all 4 of those pieces and let you know.

Not unless the karaoke game has some means of evaluating performance. If Guitar Hero, the drums, and the dance game are going to tell me I suck, I want the singer to suffer the humiliation too.

Isn't Burnout Revenge the sh!t! Oh how I love that game! Even more since it's one of the few that I actually have a good chance of beating my family at.

but then - guitar hero on PS2 is even more addicting. I've had to cut back as it was making my arm hurt.

Really? How does it do that? Our friend in the industry says it actually listens for rhythm and pitch. I want that!

I'm also super excited about the Wii. I'm more of a game voyeur than player, at least by my generation's standards, but this system may revert me to my Super NES days. We borrowed a friend's Game Cube a few years back and I was enthralled by it. Nintendo will always have my heart.

Wow, I checked your link. Great price!!! Good luck with your auction.

Is your avatar one of those 'Wii' people? I don't think that is how it is really called but I have seen the commercials and heard the kids down the hall excitedly making themselves a 'Wii' person.

I didn't think it was anything scientific.

To continue the derail, they are:

1. A renewal of my lapsed DL AP
2. Our trip to Yosemite this month (I'd love to pay for everything with cash)
3. The Edirol R09 (http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.aspx?ObjectId=757) recorder (for podcasting, natch)
4. The Xacti HD2 (http://www.sanyodigital.com/video_cameras/HD2/index.html) camera (I have the 6MP/standard def one... and I want need to upgrade)

...and then, of course, the Wii, which should neatly end my derail.

Well...{to further derail, sorry} doesn't it help that they make you pay for one night up front? Depending upon where you are staying, I guess.

Details! We just got back {3-12/15} and were as careful with our $$ as possible. Where are you staying??

Since GD has given his OK on the derail, we're staying at the Lodge at the Falls. Last October, we stayed at Curry Village, which was delightful except for the no heat / walk to the bathroom thing.

Heather wanted a trip back to Yosemite for our 10th anniversary (which was Dec 31), so I figured I'd make her happy and still get indoor plumbing.

We're going in two weeks.

MouseWife

LOL He has pretty much said so I don't feel bad, either.

Oh, the Lodge. Well. That is also where we stayed at. I don't know if they've upgraded all lodging but since the first time we've gone they now have {in the family rooms} phones, t.v.'s with limited cable, mini fridges and fans but no a/c. Pretty sure of that. They had a survey asking if we thought the rooms needed it. I said no because that is part of the fun of going to the park when it is hot~dealing with it and finding some water to play in.

I do go on, sorry.

The Lodge~ I don't think they say quite so much about it but upon check in they give you a little paper card. It is for coffee/tea. It wasn't too clear to me and when I went in to the food court {near the check-in, not the fancy restaurant} and the coffee place was closed, I thought no coffee. Nope, you just go to the cashier there and show your pass and they'll give you a cup for a coffee over at their station. I think this is cool because I drink a lot of coffee {but you can drink cocoa/tea}.

A big reason {aside from the fact all lodging at the Lodge has bathrooms} is that the cabins at Curry Village freak me out now. One time we were there and there was a rock slide. Right behind us! Yikes! But, do go cruising around and check out the new employee lodging. Very nice.

Take advantage of the free bus and if you like cemetaries, check out the one next to the museum by the Ansel Adams Gallery/Museum area. It is old and small but very cool. Oh, and behind the museum there is a Indian village/museum. Cool.

Congratulations to you on your 10th!! We went there shortly after we were married and took a picture on the bridge below the Bridalveil Falls. We took another one at 20 years and last month for our 24.

We also took our daughter and new husband to do the same thing.

Have the best of fun and if you want to enjoy a bit of time at the Awahnee, a coffee at the bar is pretty cool.

{coffee coffee coffee, no wonder why I go on.....:coffee: }
