CHRISTMAS STORY director Bob Clark is dead

Bob Clark and his son were killed in an auto accident this morning. Clark leaves behind a colorful legacy of hits and cult oddities, as well as some regrettable crap. A CHRISTMAS STORY is his sure bid for immortality, and he inaugurated the PORKY'S series. The original BLACK CHRISTMAS remains a terrific thriller, and a very influential one. Cult fans still adore the disturbed Vietnam vet story DEATHDREAM. Alas, he also unleashed sludge like BABY GENIUSES and KARATE DOG in more recent years. He was in preproduction on a remake of his early film CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS.

Was that that accident in Pacific Palisades? I remember hearing about it on the news. I guess the other driver is in custody, and he and his passenger are both injured.

Did I say BABY GENIUSES was sludge? I take it back. It was sludge almost singlehandedly redeemed by one particularly charismatic extra.

I thought Baby Geniuses was a candidate for worst movie ever made with serious people involved. Then they made Baby Geniuses 2.

That's the only movie mentioned in this thread so far that I've seen.

He made a lot of bad movies, that is true, but BC did pull one true little gem out of his hat o' crap. And in the end that was all he really had to do anyway.

My friend just e-mailed this story ...

Our head writer just found out that a comic/musician I
know - Henry Phillips - has a father who loaned $5000 to Bob Clark 3
weeks ago (Henry's dad was an actor in Porky's). And Clark apparently
told Henry's dad that if he wanted a signature to pay him back, he would
give him one. Henry's dad said it was cool. "What if I get hit by a
bus?" Clark told him.

Well, it wasn't a bus, but it was close.
