I get the feeling that no one else here watches Jericho but I did, it was great and it's been canceled with a cliff hanger ending.
That said, there is a petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/09272006/petition.html) and email (contactus@kingworld.com) campaign going around to appeal to CBS to bring it back.
Yes, I am aware that online petitions rarely work but it makes me feel better to at least try.

I watched the first few episodes. I found it cheesy, sappy, and unrealistic. They took a great premise and fumbled it.

Ya, it was, and that was their downfall. It got really good.
But unrealistic? Really? Multiple nukes went off. Do we really want to know what would be realistic? :p

Yes.
Why don't you go do some research and let us know how that works out for you.

I watched 3 or 4 episodes, and to be honest, I just didn't care for it. I probably canceled my season pass during its hiatus I probably would have anyway....there are just too many other shows in my "Now Playing" list to watch.
I do sympathize with it being canceled & left with a cliffhanger...I *hate* that!

I was joking and being sarcastic! You mentioned you didn't like it because it wasn't realistic. How realistic should the show be. We have no experience with this scenario.

F-ing canceled!?! Oh noes!
I'll admit - it's not my favorite show by any means - but no cliff hanger non-ending.
Now - I haven't watched the last episode as we're on the tivo schedule but - COME ON! (or maybe I have - I don't see one in Tivo)
I simply must know more... I mean the flag in the last episode! and the helicopters coming to (maybe) save the day (and get what's his face that I can't remember his name.)
ARGH! There ought to be a law against not showing the ending to the series. f-ing CBS. I shake my fist at you!

It’s not a matter of experience, but of common sense.
1: There is no way you’d see a mushroom cloud over Denver from a town in central Kansas – we’re talking hundreds of miles here.
2: If I remember correctly, there were only 10 or 12 cities that were taken out. As horrible as that would be, that is only a fraction of the number of cities in the US. The closest nuked city to Jericho was several hundred miles away. Why would the power go out? Why would the phone system stop working? Why would all the radio and TV stations stop broadcasting? The EMP affects from ground blasts only extend out a few miles – roughly the same distance as the blast damage. I doubt Jericho’s only source of electricity and telephone service is Denver. And are there no TV and radio stations in Kansas or other nearby states?
3: Where are the County and State governments? Why didn’t they send someone to the county seat if the telephones weren’t working? (Unless Jericho is the county seat. In which case, why was this never mentioned? And, if it wasn’t, why was the sheriff located in Jericho? Sheriffs are located in county seats.) Also, Topeka wasn’t hit. Where was the Governor? State Troopers? There would be significant federal presence in the states capital city as well. And where was the National Guard? Why did all levels of government, except the local, just vanish? (I just remembered the IRS chick. I guess the magic a-bomb disintegration-of-government-employees ray missed her.)
4: Why did the planes have to land out in the middle of nowhere? Again, only a few cities were destroyed. There would be plenty if intact cities with large airports within flying distance. Why didn’t they go to those?
5: Grocery stores are no longer supplied directly by trains. They unload in regional distribution centers. The goods are then delivered by truck. And why would the trains grind to a halt? They have their own power source – diesel engines. And the trucks, too. I can see the national transportation system faltering days, maybe weeks, after a disaster of that magnitude… but instantly? Remember... only a few cities were hit.
6: The people – especially the ones in charge – are idiots. There has been a huge national disaster. The power is out and we don’t know if we’ll ever get food delivered again. Lets just cook up all the meat in town and have a big celebration! Yay! No thoughts of gathering and rationing supplies. No thoughts about trying to preserve food you’ll need to survive. The first thing the city government should have done in those (unrealistic, IMO) circumstances was shut down the stores and gas stations. Then form a committee to inventory and consolidate the town’s resources. The whole idiot town deserves to starve and freeze come winter.

Not that anyone cares, but the protests over the cancellation of Jericho (and essentially the networks pulling the plugs on serial dramas without giving them a chance) were successful.
Jericho will be back for at least 7 episodes as a mid-season replacement next year. And if it still pulls in ratings it will receive a full season.

Awesome. I think this one of the best shows on tv (trumped by hero's). Lost lost my interest mid-season, though they seem to have rectified it at the end of the season. It is likely easier for the writers now that they know when the show ends. 24 is laughably awful now. And i HATE reality shows - the stupidity of each gets progressively worse with each nauseating iteration. I just saw an ad for BINGO the show. Are you fuking kidding me.
BTW, if we remember back to the small incident in Ohio a couple years back that caused the entire Northeast, part of Canda and the midwest; it seems quite possible that devastating nuclear attacks that wiped out every major city and surrounding suburbs in America could disrupt the nations power grids.
And mind you, we don't actually know the full story yet. We are just surmising at this point. That is what keeps the premise and cliffhangers interesting.

Reality TV must end. They wanted to replace Jericho with some kid-centered reality TV show. Hopefully this protest/outrage over the cancellation of yet another serial drama due to "low ratings" (messing with the schedule, pulling it off the air for a long period of time with no re-runs and little promotion that it was coming back) will start the change of how ratings are calculated. People don't sit and watch TV live anymore. TV is recorded, or watched online at a later time. And because of this networks aren't giving shows time to build an audience. They seem to have forgotten that The West Wing, L&O and The Simpsons didn't have super high ratings from the start. They took time to build a following.
Yes, but that's not what happened in the show.
It's a TV show. Suspend reality. Do you sit there and criticize Lost because it's not realistic? Or Heroes? What about 24? In 24 there is never any traffic, you get cell phone service everywhere, data transfers take a ridiculously low amount of time...
We don't know how we [as a country] would react if this situation appeared. We also don't know who set off the bombs, who the good guys are, who the bad guys are and who the heck that Army is. And what is up with that flag?

I was actually watching Jericho for a while when it first came out, mainly because I was standing in the McDonald's bathroom line on the way back to Orange County after Comicon last year. They were super nice people, really smart, really funny... and it's great to find that sense of humor on a hot, sticky day when we have to pee that badly and it smells.
I just couldn't stick with it because I have a hard time sticking to watching shows, even shows I love, if I don't record them. I think I need to buy some more VHS tapes.

Well, I'd say something smarmy, but only BTD knows my financial situation, and why its probably best that I grab a VHS cassette and set the timer, as opposed to getting a whole new set up.
Though I'm considering it, I really shouldn't. I do miss having one.
Oh screw you guys.
Now I'm considering it.

Check it out!

Thanks for the reminder! The first few episodes were a bit hokey but it got so much better.
If you missed it the first time around set your TiVO and catch it this time. They promised a 2nd season but anything after that is going to need a bigger fan base.

Yeah, I did too! Right next to something they called a "Lava Lamp" and an 8-track tape player.....

Yes there are a lot of questions. I know that Washinton DC went up in smoke, but with all of the government offices and employees all around the country, I doubt the government would just no longer be. But that's part of the mystery!
And if a mylar ballon can knock out power to the entire west coast, vaperising thousands of miles of lines and equipment should have no problem preventing power from getting around.
Oh, and just in time for The Fourth Of July, this is my 1776 post!!!

Yes, the acting will be cheesy. Yes, some parts of the story will be flawed. But, it is an interesting hypothesis on how life could be after a catastrophic event that ripped our current technologies away from us. Watch it people.
