View Full Version : New job

Gemini Cricket

So, I started my new job yesterday.
I like it.
I'm a post-production coordinator for 2 tv shows.
It's on the lot of a big studio.
I'm seeing stars... both ways. I'm working my butt off and seeing stars encircling my head and I'm seeing film/tv celeb stars.
It's a pretty fun job. Very demanding, though. Lots of fun, but lots of stress.
All in all, it's cool.
It's also one of those deals where it could all end tomorrow if we're canceled, but meh it's worth it.

I relocated to Studio City and for the first time in 10 years I'm living alone. I like it.

I won't be able to tell you what studio or which shows for the time being. But in person I see no harm in mentioning it. Sorry for being cryptic, but I had to share my news with y'all.
:)

I'm so happy for you!!!! :) I used to work in Post Production years ago, and I just loved it! In fact, it was how I met (my now late) boyfriend, Chris. It was seeing projects before the public did, meeting amazing & talented people & neverending parties! I was completely dazzled & had a total blast! It was a really thrilling time in my life!

I know you'll enjoy it, too. Studio City is a fun part of town. It's my neck of the woods! I feel a Jerry's Deli & Pinz meet in the future works....

It's totally thrilling. People on studio lots are really friendly.
Truth be told, I used to work in post from 1994-1997. I liked it a lot. This is my big return to the industry. :)
Oh, and I loathe reality shows ... but I won't hold that against you. :p
One's a reality type show, one's a documentary series type show. The former is trying truly to stay away from hokum, thank goodness.

GD ~ I love Cuban food. :)
When working in the porn industry, one needs to be cautious.
I'll say. I can't believe we ran into each other on the set of Asian Pussy Buffet #8. I'm glad I didn't get busted for talking to you, crew members get in trouble for conversing with the talent. :D:evil:

Cool. I depsise the concept of celebrity, though, so I can't share that part of the excitement.
As do I. The good thing about not watching TV anymore is that I don't recognize half of the people I'm supposed to at work. :D
Our post crew is sticking to our guns about now being or working with Hollywood phonies. I think it's working. The crew we're assembling is pretty down to earth.

Yaay, GC! Now I forgive you for not seeing you this past visit. (But you were missed). Sounds like a very cool job- I share Scaeagles disdain for the cult of celebrity, but it is cool to be in a creative and innovative work environment, particularly given your love of theater. I wish you the best, and don't put up with any assholey behaviors from those celebs, okay?

I tried that, apparently the last thing he worked on was the original animated version of Pinocchio in which he had a supporting role.

Congratulations! I, too, am not much on the concept of celebrity if by "celebrity" we mean people whose primary claim to fame is repeatedly disgracing themselves. However, in the late '80s I worked as a waiter in Beverly Hills. It was cool to see actors you admired walking around. I also once passed Joe DiMaggio on the street in San Francisco. I wanted to knock him down so I could help him up.

The commissary is pretty good. Cheap, too. It's funny because everyone eating there spends a lot of time looking at other people to see if they are someone famous. :D

So I just got lambasted (in a good way) for something on the lot. I was walking to the mail room and ducked out of the way of one of the golf carts that goes to and fro.
The big guy driving it says, "I see you. You don't have to get out of my way, I have to get out of your way. Pedestrians always get the right of way." He's still talking as he's driving away from me... "Don't move out of the way for nobody... Stand your ground, young man. Mm hmmm. Don't let anyone run your ass over. Shoot. Nobody better run my ass over or I'll get him..."

That's one thing I've made up my mind on - I refuse to shoot and/or edit for any HBO "Autopsy" type stuff.

Now, if it were fake, that's fine. But no actual footage.
