Story here (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070531/ap_on_hi_te/spam_arrest;_ylt=AkMhQ517J6c_NBW9Y8.gzKPMWM0F).
Somehow I doubt this will decrease the amount of Spam I get. Though since I use gmail I rarely see any of it.
According to the article, Robert Alan Soloway is a legend in the burgeoning spamming community. He's the guy what came up with the idea of adding a series of seemingly random letters at the end of the e-mail subject line. I always wondered about those letters --- what did they mean? Why were they there? I guess we'll never know. And Soloway, well, I reckon old man Soloway took that answer with him to the grave.

I wonder, are all the companies that advertise through spam also based in those other countries out of the reach of US and European law?
Anybody else remembering Canter & Siegel* first hand? Boy was that a fun brouhaha. One of those situations where somehow the worst-case doomsayers manage to be right in pretty every respect except how horrible the worst cat will actually be.
I used to have a faux concert tour shirt where each "stop" was a USENET group that they hit (but not all of them).
Unfortunately it burned in my Hawaii house fire.
*For those who don't know, back in 1994 Canter & Siegel were two immigration lawyers credited with being the first commercial spammers (spam already existed).

Why is it that I have post dated spam in my spam folder? Today is 6/1, I'm looking at a 6/2 3:27am , a 6/2 3:30 pm, and a 6/3 6:56 pm e-mail, all making promises backed up by the obligatory mention of Ron Jeremy.
How have I received spam from the future?

Well - I didn't expect it to happen - nor do I expect it to continue - but my work email spam was substantially less. I normally come in to about 200 spams in my inbox that have not been filtered out by spamassassin or the various other filters I have set up. Today, there was only about 30. throughout the day I normally receive a ton more - today - only a trickle.
If this one guy is responsible for all I am amazed! What an operation. Of course, they also need to make an example out of him and continue to do so with anyone else who's guilty on that magnatude.
This just in -- the can this top spammer will be going to will not have its own key.
