Rides at Universal Hollywood

After reading Al's report on Universal Hollywood's VIP Tour, I purchased some tickets. However, after having my neck surgery last year, I'm nervous about getting bounced around much.

Now, I can handle Indiana Jones at DL, but not Space Mountain, Matterhorn, or BTMR.

I have not been to Universal since Back to the Future was new, and I'd like to go on the Mummy ride, but the artwork makes it look like a high speed roler coaster. Is it any faster/jerkier than Indy? Does anyone have suggestions of those rides I should be leary of?

I haven't been in ages but I only remember Back to the Future...I wouldn't ride that again. Of course, I rode it when it opened and perhaps it has been made not so rough.

If I remember, Indy is jerkier than Mummy... But if you can't do Space, I don't think you can do Mummy.

Maybe there's some Universal Studios or roller coaster expert online who can help. ;)

I would stay away from Mummy - If your head isn't positioned just right you're going to hurt.

There's no way Mummy is "jerkier" than Indy, but it does feature a high speed launch, that is similiar to California Screamin' (only it doesn't have the "stupid people, believe it or not, the ride you've been staring at for 45+ minutes goes really fast now" spiel by Paul Reubens).

I'd probably say no to Mummy, Back To The Future, and you may want to sit in the stationary seats at Shrek 4D (they have green covers).

The VIP guides are very good at making accomodations for guests, so PLEASE don't hestitate to let them know about your condition.

Let me know when you visit, maybe I can say hello on a break or something?

BTW, If you have any more questions about Mummy, you might want to ask my wife, she used to be a ride operator/slave girl there.

I did too. And I even had my head in the correct spot. There was one turn and my head slipped off the rest and was jerked backwards. Ouchies.

And BTW: Taking the VIP tour ROCKS! Skipping in the lines was cool and I really dug the private tram tour. Wanna stop at some set you are passing by? No problem!

So, it sounds like Mummy is a roller coaster then (as opposed to Indy). I prefer themeing and effects over speed and G forces, Disneyland over Six flags kinda stuff.

I thought the themeing for Back to the Future was great, and my only complaint was that I could see the edges of the movie screen which killed the realizem for me (unlike compared to Star Tours). If they could have made two person Delorians with windsheild screens it would have worked so much better, but the ride capasity would not allow it, I'm sure! That and in the row I was in the edge of the cut-off roof got in the way of viewing sometimes.

Don't forget that your VIP pass is good ALL day for font of line access. That includes BEFORE your tour starts. Just pick it up at the VIP window and head on into the park until it is time to meet up with your tour.

Without the theming and SFX, it would be a yawner of a ride. It is one of the better combinations of ride activity other stimuli.

But I shouldn't be saying this since you aren't going to be riding this. It is actually a terrible ride - biggest waste of time. You aren't missing anything. Rotten. Horrible. Icky.

I think Al said it comes with a free AP, but I'll have to check on that. Not that I plan to go back anytime soon.

I was not impressed with the "all you can eat" pass. It was only good at a couple of places and the lines at those locations were extremely long.
