Guess what was just voted the number one "Geekiest Vacation (http://www.eweek.com/slideshow/0,1206,pg=0&s=25951&a=209247,00.asp)" by eWeek?
Traveling to visit your online friends. (http://www.eweek.com/slideshow_viewer/0,1205,l=&s=25951&a=209247&po=16,00.asp?p=y)
I'll see you all next week.

zomg! If I move to the east coast I could go to Pennsic! I hadn't thought of that!
Er, um, I would never do any of those things.
JWBear

That's ok. While I never had the chance to go to Pennsic, I've been to more west coast wars than you can shake a halberd at.... (I was at Great Desert War I - Caid 0, Atenveldt 0, Wind 20!)

I think comic con counts as either #4 or #13,
and you mean to tell me if you went to vegas and into the star trek , you wouldnt go in Quarks?
And c'mon, you've never done #12?
Capt Jack
06-14-2007, 04:32 PM
oh....yeah, ok. if 4 or 13 count as Con, then I feel better.
As far as Quarks...I'd never heard of it until a few (threads) ago, when it was mentioned here.
and 12? not sure....do Vegas, DL, Grand Canyon or NYC count as Geek Destinations for Nerdy reasons?
(I dont get a lot of vacations. :( )
Ponine
06-14-2007, 04:50 PM
Anything you go see becasue of a nerdy reason counts.
ie: imo, going to Kansas City BBQ because the bar scene in Top Gun was filmed there counts.
Capt Jack
06-14-2007, 04:58 PM
never been to KC BBQ. been BY there, but never been. I wouldnt have noticed the Top Gun part anyway.
nerdy reasons....NYC...work sent me. Pretty darn geeky
Vegas...well, its vegas.
Grand Canyon...family vacation. dont suppose it gets a lot geekier than that.
CoasterMatt
06-14-2007, 05:19 PM
Um... I've been to 23 amusement parks in 14 days, would that be considered geeky?

I'm geekier than I thought.
I've done several trip to visit or even WITH internet friends.
Does a Disney Cruise count?
What about going to ever Disney theme park within a 1-year period?
I've been to Snoqualmie Falls and Rosalyn for specific purposes. Or, driven down to Fort Point Road to reenact a drive from Vertigo.
I've been to the Con
I went to Peru to see Haley's Comet
I went to see the QM2 meet the QM in LB harbor.

LOL I worked up a quote for someone from the Society of Creative Anachronism and had no idea it was a Ren themed group.
Now I totally understand why she wanted so many tents. She never did call me back, her quote was around $20,000.

For the record, I've been to 13 (many times), 10, & 8.
I've done the near equivalent (also many times) of both 5 and 4.
I'd love to do 11.

I've only done 3 of them, and they don't even seem that geeky to me... (ok, maybe driving to Snoqualmie to see the Twin Peaks locations was a little geeky).

Well, I haven't gone to the Air & Space Museum to see a space shuttle, but I did recently go to the Kennedy Space Center where I got to go inside a space shuttle.
Are there really Borg servers at Quark's? That seems out of character.

And I would love to eat pork & beans out of a flashlight in the Grand Canyon valley....
On the list, only meeting people from on line and going to the Queen Mary.
How about going to the Ponderosa? That got me a lot of eye rolls and moans from the family, that should count for something.

I have wanted to go to these places for freakin' years. Always out of the way, never enough time....
We are heading up that way again {entering Yosemite via Lee Vining} but I think that the posse I am traveling with will find it too geeky of a trek...
Calico, did you stay the night there? There is a link {maybe on that page} that says some places are haunted! Boo!
Is that a geeky thing? Wanting to visit haunted places?

We did stay at Calico, there is some more info here. (http://www.loungeoftomorrow.com/LoT/showpost.php?p=112100&postcount=95)
When you go up to Lee Vining, you go right past the turn off for Bodie, sure you can't spare a few hours? It is worth it.

That looks cool, too.
'Favorited'. :snap:
Ya know, I also went to the Ponderosa, and, I think it should have been on the list. My kids were so mad I made us go twice. Once they got over being hoodwinked the second time they relaxed and enjoyed it. I loved 'Bonanza' and also 'Alias Smith & Jones'. Probably why I have a very warm spot in my heart for Knotts.
Oh, as well as the time of the Queen Mary. Love that, too.

How about going to the Ponderosa? That got me a lot of eye rolls and moans from the family, that should count for something.I visited the Ponderosa in my youth. About the only memory that stuck was drinking root beer out of a tin cup with pictures of the Ponderosa plastered on it (which I kept for many years).
I wouldn't classify Bodie as geeky. It is a truly classic ghost town that is a unique visit.
I believe that a good chunk of Calico burned down a few years ago and was rebuilt.
