I agree, though, that the particular stained glass pieces do not represent my idea of beautiful stained glass. The concept is ultrakewl though.

If I were wealthy enough, I'd have an office of ultra-high tech - all done in Jules Verne / H.G. Wells style of old skool faux futuristic. The stained glass computer case might fit in well ... and that monitor certainly would.

I've been making colorful keyboards since the days of the C64 (I had a red and black Ferrari themed C128- thanks for tossing it out Mom). My last really spiffy system was my Amiga 4000T in copper - complete with matching monitor and patina.

I know some of you do woodworking...

How hard would it be to make some of these?

I could see a computer controlled lathe automatically churning out the parts but is there an easy way to stain/buff all the individual keys? That, to me at least, would seem to be the hard part.

Lathe wouldn't help here (lathe's are for round things - bowls, legs, etc.). A CNC machine would come in handy, but not many of them are set up for wood.

And finishing is actually my favorite part. I usually prefer to not stain; rather, select the right wood to begin with. A hand-rubbed lacquer finish would be my preference, but with all those keys, it would be a MAJOR PITA.

I wonder how long a computer made of wood would last... then again you could make a case from a dell case, custom made, then make a wood skin around it.

OMG, I'm in geektopia right now! Of course any aspirations I may have had of modding are blown away by the sheer superiority of the work displayed in this thread!

But it WOULD be fun to take old computer parts (like keyboards, since they're cheap) and mess around with them to try it. Like the cheap wood keyboard looks like someone took wood grain shelf paper and just fitted it really well. I could see doing that, perhaps.

Hmm... keyboards ARE cheap... must consider giving modding a try....

If you want to dabble in case mods, a great case to start with, is the Lian Li PC65 - all aluminum, very well built with great structural integrity, and excellent airflow.
