View Full Version : 'Aftershave drink' kills Russians!
Russian men are risking death by drinking aftershave and cleaning agents, a study has suggested.
UK researchers estimated that half of all deaths in working age men in the country are due to hazardous drinking.
In the other news, male Russian corpses said to smell better then American counter-parts! (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6752515.stm)

I remember a recovering alcoholic friend telling me about desperate drunks straining after-shave through loaves of bread. I tried to find something on line to verify, but didn't (though I didn't spend too much time searching).

Wow. I had an ex-boyfriend who's dormmate in college drank cough syrup (while still collecting sobriety chips at AA meetings, unfortunately).
I've also heard of people drinking nail polish remover & rubbing alcohol, which in scent, quite honestly doesn't differ much from vodka. :(
However, this does seem rather desperate, especially when one can purchase Thunderbird or Mad Dog for quite a steal.

That's an old military trick. Dr. Zuska told me stories like this.

I know people that did whip its (or huffed) cans of bug spray to get high.
Or people that ate acne face cream because it had a slight alcohol content.
It's a pretty icky disease.

Acne cream? A tube of that costs more than a bottle of cheep booze! Not to mention.....YUCK!!
I have heard people talk about the poor and homeless eating pet food, which is unfounded because most pet food is more expensive than people food.
