I apologize if this has already been brought up, but I couldn't find a thread.

This Saturday (i.e. tomorrow) as part of their annual Enchanted Tiki and Luau Weekend, the Egyptian Theater is showing The Sophisticated Misfit, a documentary about Shag.

Info on the film and the weekend in general (including tickets) can be found at:
http://www.americancinematheque.com/archive1999/2007/Tiki_Weekend_2007.htm

The film begins at 7:30, so it conflicts with this week's cemetery screening (Fast Times at Ridgemont High). Heidi and I are still in recovery mode so I'm not sure we'll make it, but it seems like the kind of scene that calls out for a LoT presence. I have a vague memory that previous Tiki/Luau weekends there have been very popular, so anyone considering going should probably look into tickets nowish.

Hahahah - um, with what's going on at the Cemetary this season, Fast Times would be the absolute last movie I'd see there ... not on a bet.

Unfortunately, I have a previous engagement tomorrow night. Otherwise, this would be it!

This is the info for the entire weekend. I arrived while I was camping and I didn't post it.

Are exotic tropical paradises beckoning you with firey sunsets, dreamy days lounging on the beach, refreshing & frothy cocktails in coconut shells, Don Ho crooning against a background of gently lapping waves... Can't get out of L.A.? Then don your best Hawaiian shirt (or a grass skirt), throw on a lei and haul over to the Egyptian Theatre in your "woodie" for three fabulous days of Tiki movies and much exotic, tropical entertainment!

A program hosted by Disney artist Kevin Kidney, a tiki god in his own right! Details

HAWAII (Julie Andrews in 19th Century island paradise with a not so dreamy missionary husband! Nominated for 7 Academy Awards!), HIS MAJESTY O'KEEFE (Swashbuckling South Seas Adventure with he-man-hero Burt Lancaster! Glorious Fiji Islands locations!) and MISS SADIE THOMPSON (Bombshell Rita Hayworth sings "The Heat is On" in Samoa to a bunch of hot under the collar G.I.'s!).

The LA Premiere of THE SOPHISTICATED MISFIT, a documentary about the king of cocktail era art, Shag! Featuring a special guest appearance by Shag!

A Luau dinner with live musical entertainment from King Kukelele and His Friki Tikis, the Polynesian Paradise dancers, Tiki type vendors and more!

Tiki Artwork by Kevin Kidney.

I would so go for the whole day if I hadn't already committed to an open house tomorrow! But the 7pm movie I can make...

I would have been all over it about 2 years ago but I'm still pretty Shagged out and reading about it, it feels more like a promotional video than a real documentary.

I hope we're seriously doing this... maybe we need a poll to see who's going?

Oooh, damn that sounds fun!

If anyone IS going... gimme a call on the cell. (It's on my work website (http://www.cindylambrealtor.com) if you don't already have it.) I'd like to go, but I'm not going alone.
