I've posted this in many a Disneyland thread, but I terribly miss the Astronaut-food-style Ham&Cheese sandwiches that used to be sold at Sunkist IPresume. Also the Carnation Ice Cream Sandwiches that were everywhere before Nestle came on the ODV scene. If Susan were posting, she would say that she misses the hand-spun cotton candy that you used to get from the cart (where it was made) in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle.
I miss Ghirardelli Flicks. As I understand, the machine that made them broke in the mid eighties and they were unable to get it fixed so Ghirardelli just stopped production. Some other company bought the name and makes "Flicks" but they just aren't the same.

Ever had a really good, fatty piece of bbq'd meat, and there's that lovely fatty edge that's cooked to perfection, where it's no longer rubbery, got that right amount of char, is just on that edge of melting and but still holding together, and just tastes soooo delicious? Those cherry pies from McDonald's were awesome, as long as you let let the lava inside cool down a couple hundred degrees beforehand.
I'm probably the only person who remembers these but Carl's Jr. used to have something called a California Roast Beef sandwich. It was roast beef, swiss cheese, and an ortega chili on (I believe) an onion roll. They were to die for and I have emulated them many times since then.
Also, I probably wouldn't eat one today but I just did some research on Libbyland TV dinners and it sure brought back a lot of memories. They were geared towards kids with names like "Safari Supper," "Sundown Supper" and "Pirate Picnic" and I remember adoring these when I was a tyke. They were only around for about five or six years in the 70s.

I loved them. Of course, wimp that I am, I would peel off and throw away the chili. The chili residue was enough. I'm pretty sure it wasn't an onion roll, though, 'cause I wouldn't have liked that. I seem to remember it was an egg bread sesame seed roll. Sort of a mini challah.
I miss the Denny's Deluxe. Roast beef, cheddar cheese, and tomato slices on grilled sourdough. I make a faux version on a Garlic Cheddar ThinKrisp that's to die for.
Another "repast from the past" I miss are the Kentucky Fried Chicken ribs. OMG they were good. I remember picking them up on the way to the drive-in movies.
My most missed Disneyland foods are actually drinks. In Adventureland, Sunkist I Presume had a Tropical Punch concoction. On Main Street you could get freshly made OJ at Sunkist's storefront, and in Fantasyland, you could stop at the Welch's stand and get a (plastic) glass of grape juice. This was a necessary part of viewing the fireworks from Captain Hook's Galley, after you ran like a maniac from the Train Station Steps where you just watched the Main Street Electrical Parade.

I'm not from Portland but there is a Burgerville in the next town, so yes last time I was there they still had them. Right now it's walla walla onion rings but for $7+ for 6 onion rings isn't worth it. I like the fresh shakes and sundaes with seasonal berries. Growing up in Hilmar was hard, everything good was located elsewhere. Whenever my sister had an Honor Band concert in Modesto we would go out to icecream. it was the only way my parents could get me to go. I miss Penguin icecream. They had a sundae called Crop Duster. A&W Root Beer has that frosty good taste.
My "treats" as a kid were space food sticks, fiddle faddle, bugles and tang.
I like A&W root beer, but all the restaurants in my area growing up had closed and we never ate there (there was one but it was out of the way and we had Burgerville so why bother). So all I ever knew was the canned version.
So it was quite a shock when I moved to California and had a couple conveniently located on my long drive routes (Vacaville outlet mall; Patterson on way to Disneyland) and I stopped and ordered a large root beer from the tap only to find that it is absolutely vile. Way too much vanilla in it and way too carbonated for my preferences.
So sad for this root beer lover that the only wide scale "on tap" root beer is gross. Fortunately our local beer-couch-and-pizza theater has a good root beer on tap but that is only a twice-a-year destination.

Their DQ carries similar ice cream, but it's still to far to go for ice cream ;)

Zach didn't want to go in and order by phone from the table, I love that, so we stayed in the car. He thinks it's great that the tray goes on the window and they come pick it up when you're done.
After that we went to the local thrift store and he bought 19 books, I got 2 cookbooks, all for the low, low price of $5.40. I think we need to stop there more often for that price. Especially with Zachs voracious appetite for books.

Did anyone actually drink Zima? I remember people showing up at parties with wine coolers. Mind you, I guzzled a lot of bad wine in college, but with the only wine cooler I ever tried I had to put out a cigarette in it to make it palatable.
If PBR somehow became trendy I have no doubt that Zima could have been. But it was excessively mocked in my college dorm, and these people were practically drinking cough syrup on the weekends if money got tight.

I, too, tried Zima once in my early twenties. I rarely, if ever, drank in my twenties, so I thought Zima was way tasty and novel. Haha!
Strangler Lewis!! Bad wine!! Heehee! I tried Thunderbird once (I HAD to after hearing how low dollar it was) and thought I would luge my lungs out. I couldn't even drink more then two sips of what was in my styrofoam cup (yes, foam cup. I'm way swank & bougie like that :p ). Did you ever try MD 20/20 (Mad Dog)? Ooh! How's about Cisco? I hear people go wonky off that stuff. I never had the pleasure of trying either. Or Night Train. I did, however, once heave after a night of enjoying martinis topped off by Franzia. Yep, BOX WINE. :D
Now I'm totally derailing & laughing over cheap hobo wines. :D

I've had Thunderbird. Never had the Mad Dog. Never heard of Cisco. However, for cheap drinks (drunks?), nothing in my experience compared to Bertola's, which is/was on the Oakland Berkeley border. In the early '80s, it was .50/.75/1.00 for a single/double/triple out of the well. Cheap even for the standards of the day. Lively place, too, as I dimly recall.
For in room dining, my classy punch of choice was a sangria made with cheap wine that I would liberally season with Canadian Club.

Straw Hat Pizza
Oohhh... I miss Straw Hat Pizza as well.
Other foods I miss:
Showbiz Pizza Place with the singing, animatronic Billy Bob bear, etc. Chuck E. Cheese is not the same.
New Coke -- I actually liked it.

Oh golly, I gargled with Lavoris as a kid!!
And Certs. My Grandma always carried Certs in her purse and would give them to us in Church when we were little kids. :)
Kevy, I am dying over Velveeta wines!! I'm envisioning a white trash wine & cheese tasting hoedown complete with Franzia & Velveeta sampling. Future maid/matron of honor: whoever you are, you now know what to serve at my bridal shower.
And definitely cherry flavored Skoal Bandit for dessert. For those who like to dip, we salute you. :p

Haha!! I've never dipped! :D I don't think I ever could. I'm the worst kind of reformed ex-smoker, too. You know, the coughing and dramatic hand waving when smoke floats my way. So, I'd like to think I'm still kissable! ;)
Speaking of things that don't exist anymore, do Capri ciggies still exist? I used to smoke those! All long and skinny like.
It's nice how my contributions to this Thread have mostly been hobo wines & tobacco. AllyOops! is just another word for class, baby. ;) :p

Pall Mall no filters? Those were nasty.
My friend Silke used to smoke Stuyvesant's because they were so gross no one would bum one off her. It would go like this-
Person - can I have one of your ciggarettes?
Silke - sure but they're Stuyvesant
Person- erm no thanks

At my most ambitious, I alternated between Camel non-filters, Lucky Strike and Chesterfield. Pall Mall was definitely the nastiest. On the other hand I also tried rolling my own with Drum. Too sweet.

Reminds me of a funny story. When I was a young and impressionable lad, I started smoking Lucky Strikes because I had an internship at a newspaper and Mel Gibson smoked them in The Year of Living Dangerously. A month later, when I found myself at a treatment center in the middle of the Arizona desert, my choice of brand came in handy. Every week, they would make a run to the local Circle K to pick up sundry goods. Since it was a center which focused on health and recovery, there were always a group of people who would buy "just one pack" of smokes with the idea that they were ready to quit. I'd get a carton of Luckies (L.S./M.F.T.!). Within two days, half of the smokers would be bumming cigarettes from the "smart" ones that bought cartons. The Marlboro Lights smokers were hit hardest by the bums. I almost never had to give up a cigarette...

Okay I need help from you clever folk. I tried googling them but found nothing: I used to smoke minty cigarettes that were NOT menthol, but kinda like Wintergreen LifeSavers. But I can't remember what they were called! For some reason Orbit gum keeps coming to mind, so it must have been a similar name. Anyway, when people would come to bum them off me, and I said what they were, I always enjoyed the hand-retraction action, and the look of revulsion on their faces!

Bidis? I think that's how they're spelled. I remember getting strawberry a lot.
I can't believe I'm opening this thread for the first time in a couple of days and it's page 3. I was frightened. I don't think I'll be trying to catch up.
I would like you all to take up smoking cloves.
This would have the benefit of making the world smell wonderful and it'll also be less crowded when I'm older.

Yumm. Love cloves. Started smoking them again recently when I'd come home smelling like smoke anyways from the bar that we frequent.

Ugh, I remember when I'd smoke cloves exclusively... Got harsh. I still smoke them from time to time, but it's fairly infrequent, since I can never justify an entire pack. I remember Bali Hai's - the ones that were a blend of clove and tobacco. Hrmm..
