Got this in an email:

At the prestigious California State Fairs Wine Tasting the winner of
Best Chardonnay in the State, Best Value of All Wines, Double Gold, 98%
Grade, Best of Show and Best of Breed was Charles Shaw’s 2005 Entry that
is sold for $1.99 at all Trader Joes. To the wine snobs, pundits, and
wine shop owners – What about that! Don’t believe me – go to
www.bigfun.org/fair/pdfs/competitions/results/WinnersbyWineryAwardClass.pdf.

$1.99 are you out of your mind? That's cheaper than my beloved, Night Train! Sweet, sweet, Night Train. Of course, I am a Thunderbird man myself.

What's the word?
Thunderbird!
How's it sold?
Good and cold
What's the jive?
Bird's alive
What's the price?
Thirty twice.

Your'e far classier then me, Tref. When I think wine, I think Ripple. Or MD "Mad Dog" 20/20.

When I think of a bottle of "Mad Dog", my mind conjures up images of top hats, monacles, satin evening gloves and pearls. Society's elite holding their wine glasses, filled to the rim with MD Blue Raspberry flavor, with pinkies extended, toasting to bags of money with green dollar signs painted on the front. They ought to call MD "UC"- for "upper crust".

:D ;) :p

Pismo Beach, as part of some carnival/party/fair thingy used (and possibly still does) have a clam chowder competition. All the Central California restaurants vied for the top honor.

One year, the big winner was: Denny's (with their condensed version)
