Why hasn't lacrosse caught on? I'm sitting here watching the NLL All-Star game puzzled. I know it's big in the east, especially on the college level, but why hasn't anyone tried to push it nationally. I don't get to see it often, but when I do, I find it a highy entertaining spectator sport. It's like hockey, with scoring. Lots of physicality, lots of action. I think it could be big, and honestly could replace hockey as the #4 big sport if the market it right.

It could replace the NHL!Totally, with the NHL on the brink as it is, now is the perfect time to start marketing. They've got a team in Anaheim, for crying out loud. I had no idea. So they're IN the largest west coast markets (Anaheim, Colorado, San Jose), they just aren't marketing. If they get the name out now, and work on a plan to expand the 10 team league over the next couple of years, they could easily pull in the fringe hockey fans that are annoyed at the league right now.

The biggest problem Lacrosse will have in becoming a major sport is that it would be competing with Baseball and to a lesser degree soccer---not Hockey.

Maybe it would be hard to televise like soccer is. (Not enough opportunities to shove commercials in our faces?)

Lacrosse is tons more fun than either soccer or baseball. Have you ever seen a women's lacrosse team? vicious! And everyone gets their own stick!

Oh, I completely agree that Lacrosse is more fun both to watch and to play then either baseball or soccer. However, those sports are well established and show no signs of decline. Lacrosse would have a tough time competing against them for the very limited sports fan summer doller. A replacement for hockey would have to be a indoor winter time sport not an outdoor non-wintertime one like lacrosse....unless lacrosse went to playing indoors....................better yet strap roller skates to lacrosse players feet and have a 3-D sorta hockey game going on out there*

*I actually played "roller lacrosse" once with a bunch of friends on a wooden plank pier jutting out over a lake which lies in the shadow of an active volcano(quite possibly the nuttiest thing I ever did) :D

They do play lacrosse indoors.

I remeber a Indoor league in the late 80s, but I thought they folded.

The Anaheim NLL team plays at the Pond. I believe all of the NLL is indoors.

Yep, you are right. Not only have they not folded but they have increased in size............still be more fun if they strapped skates to their feet. ;)

Oh, hey, look, it's this thread.

Well, I'll be finding out myself how exciting the NLL is in person as I've won tickets through my office to a game next month. Sweetness.
