Aww, I didn't know he was ill.
I heard they based Kent Brockman on him.

My family watched him every single night. Another end of an era. :( He was the best, I always thought.
I guess I still have to get used to the fact that all my childhood heroes will go sometime.

real shame, he was typically on too late for me to watch... but is still a classic.
Not to mention one of the longest news reporters in American history and great role model. He will be missed.

Either last week or the week before I caught him saying goodbye on the 10pm news. I thought he was retiring...

Awww, Hal Fishman was really one of my favorites... It's strange, for all the people we've said our RIPs over, Hal Fishman is one that really breaks my heart. He was the first face I watched when I was younger, and I always thought he was the classiest. You never really could tell where his political leanings were, and I thought that was great. With his editorials, I felt they were more common sense than anything else, even the few times I didn't agree with him.
We in Southern California were very lucky to have had him.
RIP

Sad news indeed. I loved watching his newscasts.

wow - he was such a staple. I used to watch his newscasts almost every night for years. I liked how he'd get pissed when they'd break into the news for some stupid car chase. He'd always want to get back to the "news."
RIP Fishman :(

Yeah, I was really bummed this morning when I heard. He was one of the best. I didn't always agree with his editorials, but I ALWAYS respected him and his focus on the important news (and not the fluff).
In a subsequent discussion, I was reminded of another long-timer: Stan Chambers. I heard his words on Hal and about how Stan had respect for Hal's integrity. And to think: Stan Chambers has been with KTLA since 1943 (if I heard correctly).

Stan Chambers is an arsonist. It keeps him employed.

Oh no!! That's so very sad!!!! :(
I used to have the biggest crush on him!! In fact, my best friend had made me a picture collage on her computer with all of my senior news reporter and political crushes!! I'm sure it's still in my bedroom somewhere at my Mom's house! In fact, my friends totally teased me when he cameo'd in Joe Dirt. They knew I thought he put the "A" in Awesome.
When I read this, I immediately thought "I need to call Robin (my best friend)"!! However, she passed away a few years ago. I sometimes react and want to do the things I did in the past before I remember how life is in the present.
I hope she gets to meet Hal in Heaven. I just looked up toward the sky and asked her to send Hal my love. :)

What is it with you and old dead guys?!?
You just made me burst out laughing on a death Thread!! I need to take you with me to funerals. :p
I used to always crush on way older men!! Unfortunately, at that age, they always have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. :(
These days, I don't have anymore senior crushes (mainly because they've since passed on. Hal was my first love, before Jerry Orbach.) I also no longer suffer from older man "love me daddy" syndrome. My boyfriend is actually younger then me! Yowza!
Having said that, I still love Tom Brokaw & John McCain gets me hot. ;)
