How cool would it be to use this (http://www.pinktentacle.com/2006/02/aist-develops-3d-image-projector/) with Fantasmic or elsewhere....

AIST develops 3D image projector..


Heat from the laser caused the air to expand, producing a crackling sound that resembled a series of tiny explosions.

That's cool! And they say it could be used in pyrotechnics. I see Disney being interested at some point.....

The newly developed device, however, creates “real” 3D images by using laser light, which is focused through a lens at points in space above the device, to create plasma emissions from the nitrogen and oxygen in the air at the point of focus.

uh....that sounds quite hot. does anyone else see a problem with this?

Well, as a desktop display I could see some down sides: Fluffy! No! Stay away! Fffsssst!

But as part of a pyrotechnics show like Fantasmic along with the fire water and ground effects? No not really.
