This actually old news, but I didn't see it discussed on LoT.

As you may (or may not) know, the Devore location for the Ren Faire ("Southern Faire") is no more (as of early January). The new location was announced (http://www.renfair.com/socal/) a couple of weeks ago and the dates of the run were updated last week:

The Original Renaissance Faire
Saturdays & Sundays
April 16 - May 22, 2005
10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

We are pleased to announce...

...the 43rd Annual Renaissance Pleasure Faire will be held...

at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area

6 Great Weekends in Spring!
Saturdays & Sundays
April 16th - May 22nd, 2005

The Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area is filled with rolling green lawns, many trees, a lovely lake, river rock shade pavilions and generous seating throughout.

A tranquil paradise for us to celebrate our annual Faire!

Come and play, we're not far away!

See larger pictures here (http://www.renfair.com/socal/newSitePix.php).

The Faire site is located at Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area, which is at the Irwindale exit off the 210 Freeway, just east of where the 210 and 605 Freeways cross. We are now closer than ever! See our Map page for details (http://www.renfair.com/socal/general/maptofaire.php).

Ticket prices at the gate:

This is gonna sound wierd, but can anyone attend the Faire? Do you HAVE to wear a costume?I would say that at Southern Faire that about 1/2 the guests wear "New Fangled Clothes" (i.e. not in garb).

Yes, it can be fun to wear, but sometimes even that can be daunting to a first-timer.

Yes. Their lease was not renewed due to a continuing battle regarding the facilities that Glen Hellen was insisting the company that runs the faire build and/or upgrade.

Ok, can we go easy on the clevage shots - just opened this thread at work and had to quickly resize my window as my boss walked by. Definately swanky.

Links are fine, or do it in the Parking LoT. I want to be able to check in on the boards every now and then while I'm working. I suspect other's employeed by the man may feel the same way.

i was waiting for something like that.

Possibly, there should be a movement, that if pictures like this are posted, that are generally not something you want to be viewing at work, that the mods can add a *NWS* (not work safe) to the original title of the thread, so you know not to click on it at work.....

Also watch the hotlinking of images...
I know when I find my own bandwidth being used by a hotlinker, then I will sometimes change the image to something not so cool...

I took one out of a post where the original hoster did the same, luckily they were nice about it and just posted some text...

Great cleavage shots! :) I love you.

Of course, the other change they made to this year's faire is supposedly making it PG-13. Bleh. I sent them an email, so hopefully if that is misinformation they will tell me. What's the point of Faire if it's just going to be a children's faire? I can get that many other places much cheaper and more comfortable than going to Faire.

They have R-rated Renfaires?! I'm trying to imagine how that would be possible. No, on second thought I'll stop.

alphabassettgrrl
03-02-2005, 03:59 PM
It's more NC-17. The Poxy Boggards are a group that sing bawdy songs and they cuss and stuff. You're properly warned, don't worry, and they give you plenty of notice to remove your children. They'd not be allowed under the supposed PG-13 rating. I have to check my email, if they've replied to me or not.

We'll see, hopefully it's just a nasty rumor. Wouldn't surprise me, though, to see them reduce the rambunctious stuff. It's been bled year by year, won't be much left soon.

In relation to the old site, is that further, east, north, what?

Ghoulish Delight
03-03-2005, 10:52 AM
It's about 20-30 minutes south-west of the previous site.

Actually, I think it's more straight west (I forget how far north Glen Helen is exactly), and maybe more like 10-15 minutes with now traffic. It's really quite close.

03-03-2005, 11:53 AM
well, that was clear. ;) I'll try to find the old address and mapquest the old site, then the new site, and see what that does for us San Diegans. It wasnt the shortest drive for us before.
Thanks !

2575 Glen Helen Pkwy, San Bernardino is the old address. I was right the first time, the new location is south-west of the old. But not much. The new location probably won't impact your drive time by more than a few minutes either way.

I heard about the PG-13 tone down from my guild. I'm just waiting to hear back from a couple of the performing groups to verify it. Supposedly, there won't be an NC-17 stage this year, and they're asking for no "kilt checks" also. :(

According to Mapquest, they are 35 (driving) miles apart.

If I lived in the Valley (as some posters do), I would be very happy (from a drive time perspective) with the move. If I lived in Riverside or Moreno Valley: not so happy.

And she appreciated it.
Those of us coming from waaaaaay So Cal, or San Diego, have been getting the short stick on information. I dont know why. I have two friends in guilds, and the LoT seems to know way more than they do.

So, as someone who stopped working faire in '95, I suddeny am the voice of wisdom . This is so terribly odd to me. I have no costume that even begins to fit, last worked archery in '95, and wow... I dont think I have set foot on a faire since then. I spent more time in SCA events since then, but have decided that the SCA isnt exactly what I am looking for.

I derailed. Point being, swank friends, I appreciate all the information I hear. Eventually, it all becomes usefull. Thanks to GD I was able to quell someone who had been nagging me that the new site was another two hours north.

Huzzah!

As for the PG-13 "tone down" rumor - it's verified. One of the Poxy Boggards said they were to keep it at the level of Sound & Fury's "Testacles and the Sack of Rome" or lower. And "Testacles" is a theatrical spoof just full of innuendos, most of which children don't understand anyway. So, there won't be the NC-17 stage with songs like "Bang Away Lulu" or "Good Ship Venus" now.

Too bad they can't make this a more adult event. That was the most fun part of it. Perhaps there should be a faire more geared towards family and another more adult oriented? There already is a "family oriented" faire that runs the same exact weekends as this one. It's out in Corona, and is also MUCH less expensive so that families can afford it.

The "corporation" that runs the Renaissance Pleasure Faire is being absolutely stupid by "scouring the shire" with this toned-down nonsense, just because they want to "make more money". I don't see why the NC-17 stage could not stay in a sectioned area, and have a beer garden or such. They would have made a fortune! And now, they'll lose business...... and LOTS of it. Already, about 10 friends of mine who frequented the faire every year are refusing to return and have written letters as to why.

They've also lost a lot of faire participants and vendors due to the site screw-up, and they'll lose a lot more, because the info was just released that there will be NO after-hours events allowed at the new site, and that the premises must be vacated by 7pm each night, and that participants can camp about 15 minutes away at a seperate lot. Without the afterhours events, a lot of participants will bail. And it wasn't "bad" stuff - mainly shows - we had to name a few: The "Electrical Parade" (people/pets/cars/things wrapped in xmas lights and parading through the dark to the *real* soundtrack), The Gong Show, various concerts, etc. It was the main perk to working faire. And they killed it. The stupid corporation has officially killed faire as far as I'm concerned. *sigh*]

Somebody got a big fork?
