Can't make either of those events...
In other KCRW news, they just played a truly fantastic version of Rider in the Sky... the performer was Dan Bao Vietnam, and I can't find ...
Take that back, I found it on one of Rough Guide's CDs - Rough Guide to Vietnam. While I'm only buying it for the one song, I think it could expand my musical horizons... eastward.
I do loves me some KCRW internet radio

I was debating posting this because it's still a couple months away, but I kinda want to start talking about it now so I remember to make time for it, especially since we'll be out of town for the opening.

Birth of the Cool (http://www.ocma.net/index.html?page=upcoming#Birth_of_the_Cool:_Califo rnia_Art,_Design,_and_Culture_at_Midcentury)
oct 7, 2007 - jan 6, 2008
Birth of the Cool: California Art, Design, and Culture at Midcenturyis one of the most ambitious exhibitions ever organized on this seminal period, encompassing the painting, architecture, furniture design, decorative and graphic arts, film, and music that launched midcentury modernism in the United States and established Los Angeles as a major American cultural center. The influence of these modernist practices on contemporary art and culture has been widespread, and today the styles associated with this period have become shorthand for beauty, sophistication, and confident urbanity.

Sunday, October 14, 2007
This year's Art and Architecture tour--supporting education programs at the museum--features remarkable homes designed by award-winning architects and designers. The homes selected for this year's event showcase stunning examples of contemporary design and unique collections of contemporary art.
Following the self-guided tour, participants are invited back to the museum for a 1950's theme party with music, cocktails, and hors d'oeuvres. The event will include an auction with many exciting items as well as a surprise raffle package.
We will be out of town, but that sounds like good times to me.

Oh crap, it just occurred to me that I think we'll be in Vegas that weekend. Crap crap crap crap.
Well, have fun anyone who goes.

Presents
SoundWalk2007
On September 22, 2007, the Long Beach artist group, FLOOD, will
present SoundWalk2007, featuring artists from the Southland and the
international scene. This event operates under the concept of a one-
night aural/visual experience as provided by a walking-tour of sound
installations and soundmarks located in various indoor and outdoor
spaces situated throughout the East Village Arts District in Downtown
Long Beach. The artworks will combine in multiple ways a wide range
of visual, performative and audio components. There will be
sculptures, environments, installations and performances.
About SoundWalk2007
SoundWalk is an annual art event produced by the Long Beach artist
group, FLOOD, as a variation of the "ArtWalk" events that take place
every 2nd Saturday in the Arts District of Long Beach. Artists and
viewers alike passionately embraced the inaugural event, SoundWalk
2004, with thirty artists participating and nearly a thousand
visitors joining together for the evening walking-tour. Many
visitors, who had no prior encounter with sound-art, were
overwhelmingly enthusiastic in their responses.
Now in our fourth year, we continue to explore this unique
environmental experience with new and returning artists participating
in the transformation of our downtown Long Beach space. Outdoor
soundmarks add a layer to and perform in concert with sounds of the
city, thus intermingling with and altering the local soundscape.
Unlikely combinations of the ordinary and the extraordinary enter
into chance encounters with the attending public. Galleries and
stores within the Arts District will accommodate a variety of indoor
installations, creating uncommon intersections of art and commerce.
This evening dedicated to sound is not only an exciting moment of
transformed perception but a chance to rethink our sensory engagement
with the spaces within which we function.
A number of works will be on display for an extended period
throughout the month of September at various indoor locations. Once
again, we wish to surprise, puzzle, enchant as well as engage those
who intentionally and unintentionally participate in SoundWalk 2007.
This event is free to the public and is being sponsored in part by
the Downtown Long Beach Business Associates (DLBA), The Arts Council
for Long Beach, The East Village Association (EVA) and The City of
Long Beach. More information about FLOOD and the artists is
available upon request.

It's the friendly neighbor to Azusa & Glendora (off of the 210 fwy.). :)
