I love the Musee Mechanique. It was by the Cliff House, but that has been remodeled, and I think I remember someone telling me that the museum was moved. I want to say it's at the Wharf, but I could be making that up.

Union Square is really nice. Also, the Metreon has a kick ass Sony Store and some good restaurants. I like the Long Life Noodle and Jook Joint.
Best Chinese food in the world -- House of Nan King - On Kearny St at the edge of Chinatown and North Beach
Best bookstore -- Green Apple Books on Clement
Best burrito -- La Taqueria on Mission (open all night)
Cool street to waste an afternoon -- Irving St (near Golden Gate Park) and go visit my old home on Irving and 4th.
Boring -- Haight/Ashbury -- If you go, park at the college stadium. It'll cost you about a buck and will save you a big headache.
Fisherman's Warf -- I would no sooner wish you ill health as I would a visit to Pier 39. Unless, its to see the seals. I like seals.

Thanks for all the great advice on what to do but once buisnes was done said driver wanted to ''get outa dodge'' we are going costal on way back though.
Seeing the city as we drove thrugh has whet my appitite to come back and do it proper.
Solvang/Gilroy etc also seem enticing. I will have to close eyes on trip back.
Oh BTW don't stay in Marin crap acomodations + higher prices thrown in at additional charge :)
Plus they roll up the sidewalks at 9:00 (it was Sunday but still ) we ended up eating at burgerking. Bah!

Too late nw, but for what it's worth:
Buzz 9 (http://www.buzz9.com/) is great - a tiny retsaurnt/bar in SOMA. I agree with LV re: the Metreon. Check out the Where the Wild Things Are store upstairs:)
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is great. Very central too. Great cafe for afterwards.
Take the cable cars. I'm not that fond of Fishermans Wharf, but I love taking the cable cars there.
Wander through Chinatown. Always interesting.
The Palace of the Legion of Honour is worth a look (great views from up there too).
So much more...I can't believe it's already 3 months since I was there:eek:
