View Full Version : Labor Day Plans Anyone?

With the Bay Bridge being closed for the weekend, I'm not leaving SF for the duration. I'm all prepared though, for good eating using my newly acquired DeLonghi Indoor Grill, turkey burgers and/or grilled shrimp, whatever I can put on it. The closest I can get to grilling on a weber indoors, it will have to do.

I've got laundry and a laundry list of things to do, nothing really swanky, sorry to say. I may hit the DeYoung or SF MOMA (which has the Frida Kahlo exhibit coming next year, count me as being very excited over that). I'd like to maybe go to the Steinhart so I can test out the acquarium function on my camera. But a holiday weekend, prolly not that!

Anyone else have cool things planned for the long weekend.

I'm headed out for Vegas tomorrow night to spend the weekend at a friends home who is having a Housewarming party.

And i am in one of the worst depression funks ever on top of it... great.

Six hours of driving... I should be nice and obsessive when I am done.

I want to stop at the outlet mall this time. Maybe indulge in some therapy shopping.

But I will be visiting my best friend, and his partner, and that alone should help. (and their dogs)

Homework, homework and more homework. Just got my books and the first week of school is already in full swing. Thankfully most of my friends are out of town this weekend so I won't be tempted with evil plans.

Oh and sleeping in. And I'll probably BBQ with my roommate.

I'm staying in town but I have a DATE on Friday, yay! It is with this guy who is short and wears glasses and is really nerdycute :) You know the type? We're going to dinner and a movie at the Arclight.

Saturday nite I am going with Morrigoon to the Hollywood Bowl (lol we got 5 concerts this summer, not including Pink Martini). Tchaikovsky with fireworks.

Sunday I'm taking my mom out for brunch (to get her away from my dad to let him rest) and then visiting my cousin and playing the ps3 :)

Monday..... there's a small small chance I might buy my annual pass that day but.... it doesn't look likely. I was just talking to Cheese Man last nite about how much I DON'T miss Disneyland, which is odd. No withdrawals whatsoever. Happiness at all the free Sundays to go to the gym and do other productive things. Go fig!

I took tomorrow off to make it a 4 day weekend. My in-laws (and I mean *all* of them) are coming here for the weekend. Usually we all go camping somewhere together, but Robb has to work this year on Fri and Sat, so his family are all coming here instead. They are setting up camp in my backyard tomorrow. There will be 14 of us all together. No idea what we'll do Saturday, but Sunday we're all going to Silverwood.

My Dad's house for dinner on Saturday (although we'll spend most of the day there! Thankfully, he has a beach house and that means much cooler weather!!)

Sunday? A Pool Party & BBQ with friends. Rumor has it the most fun part of this party is the roasting of marshmallows & convo that takes place around the firepit. I'm thinkin' nobody will be thinkin' toasty fire this year. :(

Monday? BBQ with family. Always a good time!

The weekend is packed with fun & excitement! :) I bet I'll try to pack in laziness, too, because I excel at that. I'll be staying with my boyfriend, and he likes to sleep in. However, because I wake up & begin work so early, sleeping in for me is usually 6:45 a.m. or 7:00 if I'm lucky!

Other than the Bowl I have nothing specfic on my calendar. USC's football season starts the same day, so I'll probably see some of the game before heading to the Bowl, unless it's a late game. To be honest I haven't checked the time on it. I suppose if I was a smart Goonie, I'd have volunteered at a picnic before the game to do some networking and then skip the game and head to the HB. Or something. There's time yet, eh?

Alex and I were hoping to head to Vegas, but can't find anyone to watch Barnum. Alex is still thinking of going, but even alone he thinks it unlikely, since he wouldn't go till early Sunday and he refuses to drive in traffic so he'd have to turn around and come home butt-early Monday. I tried to tell him he could wait till after 7 and come home late but he doesn't buy it. Whatever, I only lived there...

I'm always so time crunched that I can only think of a three-day weekend as an opportunity to get some things done at home. I'm sure it's going to be too hot at home though so I'm not sure what I'll attempt. I only have three (or is it four?) crochet projects going and I should learn to use my new printer.

My usual Saturday night dance venue is dark this week so I'm considering heading to DL instead. But the band is not one of my favorites and I don't know if anyone I know will be there. But Peter is always there to dance with and I'm incapable of staying at home.

I have a busy weekend planned for me. Saturday is football, U of O's first game of the season. Then after the game we fight traffic to go to the state fair to see Daughtry. Sunday is supposed to be family bbq but Dad just informed me they are cooking a turkey in the oven, blech! The only reason I'm going at all is because I have to hand my son over to my brother. On Monday I get to go to Vegas with Gary!! He's spent 8 weeks there this summer and finally I get to join him!!
Now I just have to pack everyone and get ready! I guess I should start planning what to do during the week while he's working. I've never wandered Vegas alone.

I have spent all freaking day wrestling with the online clerkship application system. Damn thing is soooooooo slow, and since tomorrow's the deadline it's now even slower. I mean, I'm glad I have something good to add to my resume/cover letters, but seriously this has eaten up all my damn time. You can only upload 25 cover letters at a time, then you have to attach them and delete them and upload the next batch. It takes some 20 minutes to delete them, though. And generally it times out and you have to wait until you can get through to log in again. HATING this.

Why do 4 day weeks seem a million times longer than 5 day weeks?

because its still 5 days worth of work. its just all crammed into a 4 days now therefore increasing the overall "ugh...work sux" factor in each remainder day. now, a general increase in the 'ugh' factor of any particular day creates a geometric increase in the overall 'ugh' density each following day contains, thereby increasing the 'ugh' factor 2x the first day, 4x the next etc etc

this doesnt even address the same effect multiplied by the coworker variable. each of which adds their own increased 'twit' effect to the overall 'ugh' increase when they in fact try to shed those free radical 'ugh's to you, thus further increasing your discomfort.

basically it comes down to 'no good day goes unpunished'

:D

makes perfect nonsense, doesnt it?

When I first read the original "brat", I read it not as shorthand for bratwurst, but as "incorrigible child". I did a lousy job of trying to express my own ineptitude.
