View Full Version : Napa Rose gets DiRoNA Award

The Distinguished Restaurants of North America (DiRoNA) has chosen Napa Rose, the nationally-recognized gourmet restaurant in Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Spa at Disneyland Resort, to receive a 2007 DiRoNA Award of Excellence, one of the most sought-after accolades in the restaurant industry. DiRoNA Awards are distributed annually to restaurants throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico offering outstanding food, wine, service and hospitality. This is the second time that Napa Rose has received the DiRoNA Award.

Napa Rose is just one of many tempting dining options that create dreams-come-true experiences for guests during the ongoing Year of a Million Dreams celebration at the Resort. Other restaurant choices, all delivering Disney's unique brand of quality and service, include Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel and Yamabuki at Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel.

Michael Jordan, general manager and chief sommelier of Napa Rose, noted that it's especially gratifying to be receiving the award. "We are ecstatic that Napa Rose has been selected to receive a DiRoNA Award once again," he said. "The award is only bestowed upon an elite group of restaurants that have undergone rigorous evaluations and we are thrilled to be among such a choice group."

Only those restaurants that pass inspection by the Distinguished Dining Advisory Council, an anonymous, specially-trained group of hospitality and food industry professionals, food critics and distinguished dining connoisseurs, are eligible for the DiRoNA Award. Restaurants are evaluated on a 75-point scale, and those with the highest scores are then nominated for DiRoNAs.

At Napa Rose, the Distinguished Dining Advisory Council and guests alike enjoy Chef Andrew Sutton's holistic dining philosophy through California Wine Country cuisine made with only the freshest ingredients. Neither have I. Not being a wine drinker and their generally beef centric menu has always deterred the few times we've thought about stopping by.

I think we should start a group called Disgusting Restaurants of North America, and we can give out awards like the Razzies. Maybe call them the Reflux awards.

Napa Rose is awesome tho. Morrigoon needs to sell more houses so she can treat me to more dinners there :)

Great place to eat.....have only done it once, and it cost a fortune, but was worth it!

Sounds like the next Swank Event should take place there!

Only ate there once and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, despite having to send Susan's steak back twice (though it earned us free desserts).

The two highlights of the experience were


The appetizer. It was a kind of shared combo appetizer. They brought this low wooden box with slats dividing it into nine even compartments like a tic-tac-toe game. There were four separate appetizers in four of the compartments (ribs, shrimp, and a couple of other items I can't recall). four other compartments had decorative elements. In the center square was a large smooth river rock that had been heated to 500 degrees. The concept was that you place the item that you are about to eat on the rock for a few seconds to warm it up before you eat (everything had been cooked already). Tres cool!
Dessert. While it almost sounds like something you would get at the fair, it was heavenly. Deep fried pound cake with a scoop of dulce de leche ice cream and drizzled with dulce de leche sauce (yeah - I know that is just a fancy term for caramel). Freakin' amazing.

Oh, I found it found cowering behind the couch. Claimed it hadn't seen you in years, I let it go outside (catch and release) with some condoms, which it threw in my face. Nasty little thing.

Napa Rose is lovely. I like to sit at the chef's counter, where you get a personalized meal experience. As I don't drink alcohol, it's nice to know that the kitchen is more than happy to create a meal that isn't centered around wine. Cool thing, though, for those who do imbibe, practically every server is a certified sommelier. Alex, I don't think I've eaten beef more than once there.

I'm up for a Napa Rose swanking - Wednesday through Saturday nights work for me.

What's the average dinner cost there?Depending on what one orders, particularly in terms of alcohol, you are looking at at least $30.00-$40.00 per person (assuming bare bones experience - just dinner; no appetizers, dessert, alcohol). To do it right, expect to pay $60 per an up.

Alex, I don't think I've eaten beef more than once there.

Oh, there's always stuff on the menu I could eat but it feels very secondary, which combined with the wine focus (I find wine vile and Lani doesn't drink at all) of the place just never puts it over the line for us to actually get there.

For example, on the menu Kevy linked to only three of the eight main courses are options for me (I don't eat beef or pork and currently won't support the sea bass fishery). Appetizers do better with 5 of the 9 being options.

I'm sure if we went I'd have a wonderful dinner (I've never starved at any restaurant, even Stuart Anderson's), just never quite happens.

If anyone's still interested in a Napa Rose swanking - a couple of us are already gathering there Saturday, October 13, as part of a pre-MA warm-up/let's enjoy each other's company before we're exhausted event. If anyone else was interested in joining us, I could see about increasing the number of people on the reservation.
