... He has beaten Indiana Jones, James Bond and Jack Bauer as the fictional hero most Americans would want by their side in the event of a disaster.

In the survey, commissioned by the McCormick Tribune Foundation, participants were given a choice among seven fictional heroes for help in an emergency.
Twenty seven per cent of respondents said they would want MacGyver to help them out should disaster strike.
The ingenious secret agent, played by Richard Dean Anderson, became a household name in the 1980s with his ability to get out of life-or-death situations using everyday items. Among his many exploits he plugged an acid leak with chocolate, blew open doors with bombs made of chewing gum and patched a hot-air balloon using duct tape and a map.

Did these two (http://cybersimpsons.phpnet.org/cs/img/patty_selma.gif) vote twice?

The only thing (http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/etools/logging/manual/logger/other_tools/1a-axe.gif) MacGyver and his show could not escape.

Can you tell me what actor Richard Dean Anderson most tries to escape from these days (http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/275028/2/istockphoto_275028_diner_check_20_dollar_bill.jpg) ?

What sort of disaster are we talking here? I can see picking MacGyver because he could potentially rig up a solution instead of just kicking major ass. In the event of a BOMB I would probably give the edge to Bauer.

I'd pick Jack. Because he always saves the day and there is never any traffic in LA when he needs to get somewhere.

Of that list, I'd pick Indy. He's not only incredibly handy with escapes, he's also a brilliant scientist, and I find him the most likable of the bunch.

I would never pick RDA. I could never get into MacGuyver. I just couldn't get past the lame, short lived, TV version of one of my favorite Musicals that he starred in.

Since I just saw a rerun of "The Rifleman," one of my favorite shows that I hadn't seen in probably twenty years or more, I'm inspired to say: Lucas McCain.
