View Full Version : Epcot 25th Anniversary

Disney finally decided to do something. For those who are local, it sounds like it might be a good night to catch Illuminations. They're tacking some extra stuff onto the end. The tag will feature well-known Epcot music and the voice of Walt Disney, most likely from "The Epcot Film," and will include perhaps as many shells in the closing seconds as the show's entire holiday tag.

There's more info in today's MousePlanet WDW Update (http://www.mouseplanet.com/articles.php?art=wd070924mg).

2 little 2 late

could have been nothing, but we do have an imaginer Q&A, Tag on illuminations, re dedication, and lots and lots of merchandise to break the bank on, not to mention smaller random events.

its a downsized version of the 50th... but remember, the new VP didn't have a year to 6 months to work on this.

2 bad no one is going 2 be there.

Wow... one group has 1,100 members registered as going, My mother, Sister and I are going... and so are others... sure it wont be packed like 07/17/05 at Disneyland, but its on a Monday.

Am I no one? :(

of course not...

Yes, I'd like to know what's going on.

To me, all the tiny celebrations in the world won't make up for having Spaceship Earth, the frelling Big Ball of all things, the finally wandless giant Iconic Sphere of Epcot - CLOSED to for the remarkable park's 25th anniversary.

Ugh.

That's why I cancelled my own plans to be there myself. When they had nothing planned. That didn't matter. No Spaceship Earth did, and still does.

Ahem .....

.... Bah.

I second iSm's "bah" (maybe a tad less sardonic, though).

I'll be out to Epcot during it's 25th, but certainly not next Monday. While the opportunity to say "I was there on the anniversary" might be lost, I'd rather spend my WDW time enjoying the whole park.

Dear Epcot,

I miss you. I'll see you real soon.

Your Admirer,
Jesse

zapppop and I are planning a trip in May, to coincide with some of the folks here being at WDW for the landlubber part of their Panama Cruise combo.

It will still technically be part of Epcot's 25th year. Heheh.

We're still trying to figure out what we're going to do on Monday.

Mr. Swanie and I have two trains of though on it. We originally planned on being at the Magic Kingdom, but it might be fun to see what they do have planned. My oldest still talks about DL's 50th Anniversary to this day, so I think it would be really cool for her to see another anniversary.

Our second line of thinking is that any and all of the spectacle will be lost on the 3 and 6 year olds, and we'd best stay as far away as possible.

I'm guessing it will be a morning decision for us. We have 10 days at WDW, so monkeying with the dates a bit won't make a big difference.

Pardon me if I consider it sacralige to be at WDW on Epcot's 25th anniversary, but not go to Epcot at all that day.

Please tell me you're kidding.

Please tell me you're kidding.

Nope.

Honestly, I don't know if I want to deal with my kids at Epcot if it is going to be a madhouse. We've been planning this trip for 6 months with three kids that don't understand the concept of time that well. After flying across country on Sunday I can't imagine dealing with 3 tired, crabby girls that can't understand why we need to do anything other than see Cinderella's castle as we've planned all this time. I can hear the girls (and Mr. Swanie for that matter) whining already.

Now that being said, I may try to sneak off by myself - but forgive me if I don't see me saving my sanity to be sacrilege. :D

Now, if you'd like to chaparone and wrangle the girls so we could enjoy the anniversary, I be more than happy to share the fun.

Happy Birthday Epcot! Epcot planted the seeds of my Disney geekdom in childhood, even though I didn't go to any Disney park until I was an adult. In kindergarten I had a figment shirt that someone gave us that I adored. I had no idea it was Disney, though. Then I remember seeing the commercials with Spaceship Earth on them and pining to go. I still haven't seen it in person without the big stupid arm. Can't wait for that.

I'm so glad they feature Figment on that button ... after shamefully trying to dump the only successful Epcot character back in the 90's. Idiots!

I named my dog after the cute purple dragon of Imagination!

First, I wanted to say thank you for saying nice things about my photos! It was a great day, but the evening was VERY rainy - like 4 deluges. The fireworks were wonderful, though I was in contact with chunky soot in my eyes. :)

The photos of the guy from France are on the stage, when a representative from each country went up. I think he posts on one website I'm on.

That site is kind of complicated to navigate. Watch the titles because if you're clicking on the wrong "next" button you end up at an article about Universal Orlando. I almost gave up on finding it until I realized this, then found it pretty quickly. Just click on the highest "next" button and it'll stay within the article.

Hey, I know that guy too! ;)

Sorry! I thought we'd cleaned that up (my DH is the one who was fixing that). It is easier than it was, and much easier than where we were before! I just click on the page - page 1, 2, 3, etc.

And he doesn't post here a lot at the LoT. But he was in town a couple/few weeks ago and we swanked with him at the Granvilles'55-adjacent bar and he works at Impressions de France in World Showcase at 25-year-old Epcot.
